I keep looking there.. but the original dimmer switch is pretty out in the open at the bottom of column and the wiring kit that was used had wires long enough to move the switch so I just dont see anything that I could have buggered....

Not knowing what this column is exactly... prevents me from searching on line for say 1985 Camaro shifter interlock trouble shooting etc...

There is no switch on the brake pedal... car has a pressure switch in the rear line and the brake lights work... course I did replace this switch the first week as there were no brake lights..but I drove it after that repair...

Look around the ignition on the column for the release. The opening/cover will be small. About the size of the end of the ignition key. I would use a screw driver the release if/when you find it.

Stuck column shifter issue... options and solution

3 options:

#1. Somehow get this shifter "un-stuck"... but worry every time I park will it hang again??? And next time not in my garage!!!????

#2. Replace the column. But all the ones I find end in a 1" DD and this one is a spline so I would need to change the first joint.... and my column is 2 1/2" and all I see are 2" so I'd need a differant column drop etc etc....

#3. Floor shifter. Very little room since this thing has a console from the dash to the trunk panel.

Searched for a way to put push buttons like a 60s MOPAR..
But no luck...
Then found the B&M HARDCORE STREET BANDIT AUTOMATIC SHIFTER.
Super narrow.... seems I can just fit it in against the console and drive.

Expensive but cheaper and quicker than replacing the column.

Still.. if anyone can tell me what my coumn is I would sure like to know!

Key works fine... Remove, install, turn and remove as it should.

Just cant get the column to shift out of park.

Ive disconnected the linkage to the tranny and can shift tranny by hand fine.

Ive ordered a floor shifter... to just end this worry.

I see way too many forums and web pages devoted to these things locking up to worry about it happening somewhere not as good as my own garage...LOL

probably a pin in the column that is half in.
if you like the column shift, i'd pull the column down and fix it
they're not that hard to tear down
i've had my 86 mini van column apart to fix the steering lock
my column looks a lot like your and the s10 column

Column looks to be an S10 ,never saw a Camaro with column shifter ,not to say they didn't make one. I have an 85 S10 in my truck I cut off the tab under hood and cut shifter boss inside ,used a lokar shihter ,looks like you already have lokar electric shift solenoid installed on pan rail.i will try to post pictures before and after,,having problems posting pictureson this site.

Well rear end checked out as a 1988 S-10 3:36 Posi...

So maybe a S-10 steering column is right...

Im sure its GM... Camaro, Nova or such...

But the floor shifter is ordered and paid for.. so I will go that route for now.

Its a 37 Chevy coupe that will be mostly shown.

Driven but sure not daily... so while the column is easier... the billet floor shifter may impress spectators and judges...LOL
