If a person is looking at a used vehicle that has dexcool in it besides pulling the radiator cap off and looking in the radiator for any signs of gelling ,would anyone know what else to be watchful for? Just a question.

Zonk,
When I swapped out the Dexcool, I found the overflow tank and the radiator cap had a brownish sludge. I don't know if I was on the verge of a problem(s) or not. I've never had that type "crud" (technical term) with the green stuff. I changed the radiator cap, cleaned radiator neck, and cleaned the tank as best as I could with a long bristle brush. Surprisingly, the insides of the hoses I changed were clean, but that was after two flushes. |

Quote:
What do you mean making a point? You stated that you are not supposed to add water to dexcool as stated in some link. Which link and where in it does it say this. Every single bottle of Dexcool GM sells says to simply mix with clean drinking water. You stated... Quote:
That is absolutely ridiculous. Where do you come up with this stuff. I have been using Dexcool and other extended life coolants for years and have never heard of such BS. It is handled no different than good old green coolant. When you blatantly post incorrect information it is offensive. Since the actual label on the coolant bottle wasn't enough here is a poorly scanned page right out of a GM service manual. Look at the last two lines. "suitable drinking water". ![]() |

You're right, I must've been reading two different things at once or something to that effect. Lack of sleep I guess.
