Post New TH350 Starts out in 3rd gear?

We are building a 52 Chevy pickup have a 350/350 both newly rebuilt installed.. If I shift thru the gears it works properly.. If I leave it in drive it starts out in 3rd gear.. Also my combination seems to be very low geared.. I have a ford 9 inch rearend ... any ideas if any of the newer GM overdrive trans are being used by hotrodders?

Thanks,
Roy

has this TH350 been modified for full manual service? If not, check the governor to see if the
valve is stuck in the open position. Hold the gov with the gear facing upwards, squeeze the weights together, and the valve should drop. If it doesn't, unstick it by hitting the shaft against
solid table, being careful not to damage the shaft or gear.

i agree with 32 find out about your valve body or its the gov in my opinion
about the late OD tansmissions yeah rodders are eating them up from 200-4r to 700R4, 4L60E and 4L80E the first two can be built for reliability fairly cheap the second two need a computer to operate properly hope i helped
