hello i got a new toy. is anybody into old scooters? a good freind was making some space in his shed. he is really in the old cushman scooters. he had a old honda(im a honda employee and afficianado) express. a 1978 honda express 50cc . just like i had as a kid. the price was right, free. its in rusty peices, but mostly complete, sans the muffler. i made good progress today. i put steel balls in the tank and rattled the rust out. redid the missing electrical wires. set the points and plug. i finally got spark. ran some synthetic oil through it, with the carb off. piston movement was clean. stuck my thumb in and turned it over , it felt like good compression(170psi on later test). at least it blew my thumb out. tommorow ill go through the carb , and see if fuel flows. by the end of the week i should be motoring. its amazing the build quality of those old scooters. simple easy machines i enjoyed as a kid. i drove to school on one, but parked at a freinds house close to. definitly beat the HS bus. just wait till i chrome it out. maybe fab up a shinny header! pictures to come. make fun all you want, but they are fun.

sweet! i used to be into scooters.....if you fab a header fot it, PLEASE put some sort of muffler on it, those things are EXTREMELY loud with a straight pipe....

doesnt look like much. ill paint it once i get it running well. tanks on, front wheel/hub, and the carb (soaked overnight) back on with a once through.

50cc's not cool enough. should i strap a "sneakey pete" to it? the guy down the street has a 90's HD sportster 883 not running with a 4 sale sign. i wouldnt mind looking into that. i never owned a "motorcycle" before so my scooter is the most fun ive had on 2 wheels. its funny the people who say its stupid, ask to ride. it will make a great street legal pit bike.

THAT THING IS AWESOME!!!!!!, and yes definitely "sneaky pete" it up, just make sure you dont blow anything and that it can handle it.

o yah, my friend used to have one of those honda expresses, they will outrun a lot of the new scooters.......his would run about 35-40 with him on it....

finally got my last part. the lower fuel bowl. all in all im in it $60 large. muffler , rear lights, carb bowl, front tire. now all i can say is money well spent. i was cruzin around and it will do 30 mph(iowa models were limited to 25), and i believe was the first vehicle to achieve 100mpg to the mass market. the kids around riding their bikes were all like, cool man. as they race pedaling trying to keep up. looking around at the bee, or bird flying at the same speed next to me is cool to. so open, and so light. if your into carbs and 10K rpm engines, think about something like this for a gift. its perfect for a wrench.

get this 1.69 Kw/Hrs @ 5500 100lbs wet

where can i get a 1cylinder tach? it would be like putting the gauge on a chain saw.
