not an expert at repairing these but have learned a thing or two about them during this repair. Going forward, my next Endura bumper repair will be repaired that much more efficiently.

another update: We went next door to throw on the decklid of the Gran Sport and got to see it that much closer to being done. Turned out nice for a prime once. Not sure if it's cause the painter was in a good mood when priming it or perhaps the basic contours of this car made it easier, cause the 69 GTO is also a prime once but didn't turn out nearly as good.

What exactly is a "prime once"? Thanks

Prime once generally means that if you do the body work properly the first time and prime it, you don't need to re-prime after you block it and find imperfections in the body work...Phrase generally used by flat rate body men and preppers as they don't get paid to prime it a second time.

just one prime session. On average, it takes me two prime sessions to get show quality results. 2-3 prime sessions on hoods and decklids. We also don't push it by spraying excess material on the car so the one prime isn't very much but the reasoning for not piling it on is so the primer is always hard and cured throughout.

Interesting...I've never given body work or even bare metal only one coat of primer. I was under the impression that even manufacturers recommend more than one coat of primer, that's why they recommend flash times between coats. Material build is a fine line and the most abused product in many shop is primer.

I'm interested and would like to understand, (I'm not saying your wrong), but when you prime on a show quality vehicle, you only give it one coat of primer, let it cure, block it and then another coat and block it and so on until you get the body straight enough for a show quality finish?

it will get probably 3 coats of primer, but in one session. Never one coat.

If it gets primed twice it will usually get two coats for each round, so 4 total coats.

Heck, I prime a bunch of times and it still all ends up on the floor...

Kinda reminds me of the old carpenter joke... "I cut it three times and its still too short!" :thumbup:

What that has to do with this subject I have no idea... Thanks for the info on the "prime once"

Im glad you clarified b/c I was thinking MAACCO prep job! :pain:

It's a spot job. Tail light panel replacement. The primer you see is from fixing the kink in the quarter. That car is a beast performance wise.

The Gto came out pretty good for a prime once but the doors aren't up to snuff with the rest of the car. I'll make a video on it and why I think it didn't turn out as I would have liked. I guess I cherry picked the pics and showed "the good side"(lol).

The doors are so big and long on cars of that era, they really have to be "right" or it really stands out... anyway, from what I can see you did another great job on it. Looks super slick and nice gaps everywhere. :thumbup:

Thanks. I wish it was a high dollar job cause there's a lot of little things I wish I could have spent more time on.
