Guys,

I am so mad that I missed out on all this fun! I'm sooo curious to see what the photochop of my '54 Bel Air is turning out like. From what I can see now, I could trust you all to build the whole car.

Just for the info, the skirts are a definite... old school all the way. With the 2dr conversion and roof mods, the lines will end up closer to a 2dr HT than the original sedan. The sedan roof will be shortened and lowered, and the trunk lid area lengthened to closely match the factory HT / convertible dimensions.

Also, we do have rulers in South Africa, and I did my homework before generating those CAD drawings of the roof mechanism, the measurements work believe me. I've checked them a million times. I've already ordered the electric actuators for it.

I'm losing the back seat altogether, so that increases useable storage space for the roof, and the original fuel tank will be replaced with a fuel cell where the rear seat would have been, this, along with some frame modifications allows me to drop the trunk floor all the way to the level of the spare tire recess. All in all, I have plenty of room for the folded roof back there, and the method I have used to fold it is quite a bit more sophisticated than Ford managed in the late 50's, it was inspired by the mechanism I found used in a Audi retractable HT, and uses space far more efficiently.

You guys seem to have it though, think Moonglow in Brandywine Kandy with the retractable roof, and you are pretty much there. I'll be adding the custom frenched tail lights too.

Amazing sketches so far!

Heres some inspiration. The original Moonglow, and the Audi which inspired my design for the roof mechanism, you can trust the Germans to engineer the impossible.

Rich

Hey Rich, Just a quick question so I can get it right in this second sketch. But your saying on things to go with the dimensions of a 2dr. Your not gonna shorten the entire car like some that were posted in a thread last week? I don't know if you saw it or not with you being gone and all, Ill see If I can't find that thread.
Sorry its takeing so long on this sketch, Ive been getting caught up with other stuff (getting registered for school, carshow, work, and moving out and photoshop distracting me )

Hey Brad

No sweat, life is busy for me too. The car won't be shortened, all models shared 115 in wheelbase, the difference came in the proportions of roof length/height and the trunk area length rear of the back glass. The HT had a lower roofline than the sedan, and the roof itself was shorter from the windshield post back. There was correspondingly less legroom at the rear in a HT or Conv, and the trunk area was longer than that of the sedan. Overall length remained the same as far as I know.

I'll be getting onto the hardcore bodywork soon... cut, chop, weld... the tricky stuff.

Neophyte is going to help me pick up the car from the transport company depot on Sat.

Rich

Alrighty then, I did some MAJOR kustomizations on the ghetto jet. I kustomized it to be suitable with Mike's driving style.I put one hell of a body kit on it, some new rims, new paint to try and keep it a ghetto type color. I think I out did myself on this one!

Thats one hell of a body kit, sure puts my body modifications to shame. That's all steel right? or maybe aluminum? We'd need Randy's input for sure to pull that one off, all metal finished of course, no filler.

Thanks CGG.
How do you take things like windhield and tail lights out when youve already selected the body?
