new "wiki edits" count

I've added a "Wiki Edits" count to everyone's postbit.

Keep in mind that only edits made when you are logged in to the wiki, under your username, will count towards your "Wiki Edits" count.

The wiki won't stop you from editing if you are not logged in under your wiki username -- you can edit anonymously. Look in the upper-right hand corner of any wiki page to see if you are logged in, or to see if you need to log in.

You are not automatically registered on the wiki if you are a board member. You must overtly register, by clicking the "create account" link at the upper-right hand corner of any wiki page.

In addition to the wiki edit count, everyone who has registered on the wiki, and made at least one wiki edit, will display a "Barnstar" graphic by their username. This is a traditional wiki symbol of "Barnraising" -- coming together at one time, in one place, to accomplish a goal.

Some of you will see that you have a barnstar graphic, but your wiki edit count is 0. This is because you originally made some wiki edits, but not under your wiki username. You got credit for the barnstar though, and I figured it wasn't right to remove those.

I'll be watching the new wiki signups, and "matching up" your wiki username with your board username.

Wiki edit counts will update hourly.

A "wiki" is a piece of software, like a bulletin board.

On a wiki, users work together "editing" articles. Different people add information, edit information, fix spelling and grammar, etc. As time goes on, wiki articles "mature" into high-quality sources of information, with a much better signal-to-noise ratio than forum threads, and more detail than a traditional "article".

Many sites use wiki software, most notably Wikipedia. Wikipedia uses wiki software to run a general-interest encyclopedia.

We also have a wiki, at one of our related sites, the Crankshaft Coalition: our wiki. Our wiki is being used to make a hotrodding encyclopedia. Anyone can add or edit articles on our wiki.

You can see all the articles that have been started so far here: All wiki articles

Here are the newest projects being worked on in the wiki:

An article with 60+ pics, featuring Powerrodsmike building a fiberglass fan shroud: Make a fiberglass fan shroud.

And, this one that's being made by analyzing hundreds of forum threads: Rust.
