Newb wanting to build a budget rod

I'm having a hankering for a hot rod. Always have, but I'm seriously considering it now. The 68 Camaro I'm building for my bro-in-law is in the paint shop now, I sold off most of my other cars except for my 86 S-10 Blazer (first car) and my 98 Trans Am, so my garage is kinda empty right now.

Always wanted a hot rod truck, so I'm debating doing it. Fabricating a 2x4 metal frame, doing it cheap and low slung.

I'm going to be reading up here, see what kind of ideas and inspiration I can get.

I'm thinking a 50's truck cab, roof chopped off, fenderless bed with wood panels inside, old Pontiac grille, Maybe a Pontiac 400 in it, spartan interior, just something loud, fast, and cool.

Who knows, but I think it is time from me to break out of the musclecar mold.

For something low-slung and different, you might want to look at Cboy's journal. He always has original ideas and neat projects.

Good luck with your next project.

I spent a ton of time last night and today reading his stuff. He's got some awesome ideas. Not sure I have the patience to build a whole body, though.

I'm actually starting to think of something different now. My mind goes all over the place before something ends up in my shop. Last time I started thinking of a 68 Firebird convertible and ended up with a 401/4-spd 74 AMX.

I was driving to work this morning and saw what looked to me like maybe a 61 Fairlane sitting in the woods by an old barn. It looked like someone parked it there and left it, been sitting there for a while. There was no grass growing around it, and all the windows were up, so who knows the rust situation. I may try and go by there on a lunch hour next week. I think the owners are selling the land to a developer, so may be able to get it wicked cheap or free.
