newbie confused

my 94 gmc jimmy, 4.3 vortec engine code w will blowout the gaskets between the water pump and the block when the rad cap is on tight. this is my third time this has happened. any ideas would be appreciated

Welcome, don't think your problem has "anything" to do with the tightness of the rad cap

Something isn't machined correctly, either or both the front of the block or the horns of the water pump. Also, keep in mind that the mounting bolt holes penetate the water jacket. The bolts must be installed with a thread sealer, or else they will leak. I find simple paste type Teflon plumbers thread sealant does a good job.

Is it the correct OE cap????
The cap should relieve pressure at like 12-16psi to the overflow,,,plus some have arrows on the cap that must align w/ the hose going into the overflow tank.
