OK I need some help/advice from the experts.
I have been building my pro-street Camaro for the last 3 years. To this point I have done all the work myself. I would like to continue that on the interior. I have been lurking around on the forum for quite some time and I have finally reached the point where it’s interior time. The plan for the car is a simple cruise inn car a couple times a month. Maybe a local car show here and there.
I am fairly handy with hand tools but have no access to a sewing machine.
I purchased seats already covered in black. The panels I have already bought 3mm Cel Tech (sp) sheets for. I plan to create a design in the panels that stretch through them. It’s a simple swoosh.
Taking into account my limited experience in panels I think I have decided to use double panels. Two identical panels on top of each other. The top panel will be cut into the design shapes (1,2,3) and covered, the bottom panel will help mask the clips as well as give a secure mounting surface for the top patterns. The shaded checkered area on my drawing will be 3M vinyl brushed aluminum wrap that will be laid on the bottom panel and that area will be left off the top panel to create a recessed area with the brushed aluminum showing through. The outer edges of the top panels will be wrapped around both panels when glued down. Hopefully this all makes sense.
Which brings me to my questions?
1) I know most used closed cell foam on top of panels before the vinyl. Is it necessary? My concern is the panels being too thick.
2) What type of vinyl do you recommend for best bang for buck and ease of use for a novice? Is Ultra Vinyl worth the extra cost?
3) Same question for the carpet. Best bang and ease of use. I can’t use a kit as the floor and tunnel have all been fabricated.
Suggestions as to where I may be going wrong with my plan? Or other ideas are welcome.
Thanks for any input.
