Newbie question

I am newly registered, but have been on here for awhile reading posts almost to the point of my eyes bleeding!
I am trying to decide on a gun to purchase. I have done very little painting, just enough to make it interesting. Most posts about gun recommendations seem to lean towards best gun for cheapest price. Having worked in Electronics and auto repair for years, I know the value of quality tools and lots of them!
I have decided to go to the 400 to 500 price range. My reasoning is that if I am going to learn, why not learn on what I would want to use when I do get the hang of it.
I have plenty of air supply, fresh air respirator, and competent booth.
I will be doing mostly bc/cc and am leaning towards the Sata or Iwata.
There do seem to be many variations within the same model, such as the Iwata 400 having different ending prefix numbers.
Any models to stay away from? Any reason not to use PPS ( or equivalent) ?Probably will only be doing a project or two each year. Thanks for any input!
