ok let me start out first and say the original MSD6A box I had in the car for 15 years decided to crap out on me .
(evident from the acrid green /black smoke).
So i purchased a new MSD6AL
installed according to the instructions using the exsisting mallory unilite distributor.
all connections were soldered and heat shrink tubing applied.
Readouts on the digital multimeter confirmed good connections.
Now the red wire on the MSD and red wire on the unilite distributor are hooked to the switched resistive wire (1969 Camaro)
I also installed the supplied resistor on the #4 pin on the external regulator .
(but i still get the dim generator light in ACC position)
cant tell if it cured run on because it dont fire?
I did the white wire test and no spark but I hear the MSD box making a slight whining noise.
rechecked all grounds and connections (all were good)
OK moved to the coil (MSD BLASTER SS)
here are the readings with coil removed from the car:
+ to - 0 ohms (direct short?)
+ to coil tower 4.35k ohms
- to coil tower 4.35k ohms
im assuming the coil got fried aswell?

The coil does appear to be too high in resistance.

Did you install an RPM plug? I put the 3000 in when I upgraded from my 6 to the 6 AL. When I was sure all was OK, I connected the adjustable setting unit.

I tried the rev limiter out at the 3000 to see what it actually would do while I was at it. My little 2.8 V6 don't like hitting the limiter too well.

If all else fails, remove the unilite and try a regular distributor. I quit using my unilite as the lite modules failed as often as points needed changing. They were 65 bucks then. When it worked, it was great.

yes module is installed.
7000 rpm module in fact.
read out coil again (this time with new batteries in the digital voltmeter.
on the primary side I get .35 ohms
secondary side i get 4.35 ohms
i disconnected the resistance wire coming from ignition and I get 12.67 volts DC
I did the test on the distributor ( with the card in the optics)
all checks good
I bypassed MSD box and went from coil to the distributor and still no spark.

Seems like the unilite module died then.

Yeah it helps to have good batteries in the meter.

Time to try another distributor.

BTW, i once was an EW and before that an ETR.

hehe I tested the unilite module
12.6 volts with eye not blocked.
3.2 volts with eye blocked.
a bit high on the blocked side but I think it still should work?

I am not sure of the blocked voltage level. I would imagine you should get some triggering action.

The voltage could also be from stray light with the cap off.

ok i found another coil and low and behold the module test passes with flying colors now.
12.6 unblocked and 1.1 volts blocked
mallory stated blocked should be below 2 volts.
unblocked between 12 and 13 volts.
So even though that MSD blaster SS coil read out good according to MSD it is definatly bad.
