I've check the archives and can't really tell if I'm missing anything. The dipsick tube I have and it's supposed to go with the block. The tube itself extends into the block about 6".(shoulder on the tube) The question I have is what if anything is missing,The tube is loose in the block, not way loose just that it wiggles and doesn't seem as though it should be that way. Like there is a very thin sleeve that should be in the block or something. I've only taken 1 other (old) engine apart and that one was a struggle to get the tube out. It just seems like if it was running there would be a mist or seepage from the dipstick tube hole in the block. I know the crankcase isn't supposed to be pressurized but it just seems too loose.I'd rather deal with it now before it goes back into the vehicle. Thanks, Eric

There are several different styles of tubes used through the years.

The long-1-piece tube is from a '98 Vortec roller block. It measures 3/8" OD and has an interference fit into the block.

The piece below it is from a '92 (non-roller C/N: 10054727) block. Its OD @ the bell is 27/64". It is inserted into the block first, then the short-ended tube is driven in. It's made to work w/a 27/64" OD tube like the one shown on the right w/the short end to it.

There's at least one more "long"-style tube that was used in earlier engines. It has a smaller OD.
