bbc45473 Well thanks for the info, but sad news my crank is cast, what is it safe to spin a stock 402 crank to without breaking stuff?

Chevelle111 Years ago I drag raced a 77 Camaro with a stock Canadian 66' 396. 360 hp. Ran in the high 8, low9 range with a 3000 stall and 4-88 gears. Bone stock with lots of miles.

BOBCRMAN@aol.com nothing wrong with the 396-402 engines, just the bigger engines get all the press, build them like you would a larger one , use of a steel crank is advisable as most of the lower hp. 402 were cast. You have to rev them a bit to get power so keep that in mind when buying cams, heads and valvetrain parts, Back in the 70's I had a 70 Nova SS/D 402-375 hp. It was a fast ride,a fun car, held some strip records.

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had any good experience building a 396/402? I don't hear about these motors as much as i hear about the 454 and 502's but i still think that they can be powerful given the right parts combo at least i hope so i am having a guy build me one for my 73 camaro i want to run 8.5's in the 1/8 mile any tips or suggestions.

thanks
