wave1957 Just another question!
If I go with stock Impala spindle and Corvette hub/rotor, which wheel bearings do I use, Impala or Corvette? Or are they the same?

Since budget is an issue for me, I will then keep my Impala spindles... With Corvette rotors, hubs and calipers. I have not been able to find new Impala rotors or very expensive: a few years ago, I found some 2000 miles from me, for $700 the pair!... Future maintenance will be much easier with Corvette parts!
Something else I have learnt is that there is a problem with the stock Corvette calipers corroding, so I will need aftermarket calipers...

65bluess if memory serves me correcty: vette and impala spindles are the same but not hub and roter, vette roter mounts on the outside of hub. impala mounts on inside of hub therefore u will track 1/4"-7/16 wider on each side if u go with vette roter. i have a 65 impa and put 70 disk brake setup on it . all components mounted like butta. stops on a 25 cent piece, no pullig, verry happy. impa roter and hub still availible new as well as spindle. just gutta do some diggin. hope this helps.........................

bobscogin As far as I can tell without actually measuring, the wheel track remains the same. If the part numbers for the Corvette/Impala spindles are the same, I guess you could use the Impala spindles. I bought the Corvette brakes as an assembly--everything between the upper and lower ball joints. So I just used the Corvette spindles. Spindles aren't an expendable part, so unless there's specific damage you don't need "new" ones.

Hey Bob,
Just found this thread while researching disc brake options for my '70 Impala, excellent idea! I have also found the same idea explained elsewhere on line.
I have a couple of questions about this:
Does the Vette set-up put the wheel in the same location in the wheelwell?
Since the Vette and Impala spindles are the same part number, why not keep my stock Impala spindle?
Is the spndle a wear item, should I go for a new one justto be on the safe side?

Rotors??

I have a set of D/B from a 70 impala on my 65. As you can see from the pics the rotors mount on the rear of the hub and are held in place by the bolts press-fit into the back of the hub. I have not been able to find a reasonably priced replacement rotor. They are considerably more expensive than the average and not very common.

65 to 70 Impala disk brake convertion

got the complete break setup from 70 impala gonna put in on my 65, dry fit kooks like everything lines up well. rotors are a little rough and hard to come by, research tells me that rotors from 66-80 vette rear will fit by mounting on outside of hub. only concern is that wheels will be spaced 1/4" further out on each.
geomitry problems?

anybody got input, concerns?

Parts is parts

You'd be surprised at what's available over the counter at your local parts store. You just need to know what year and model of car to ask for. Many are rebuilt, but some are new.

Suggest looking for a mom and pop parts store that's been around for years in your local area. They may have parts thats been on the shelf for years, but many rebuilders can supply rebuilt parts.

If you don't have one in your area, this store has old farts behind the counter that can help you and they have quality parts as well!

Next question. I know I have to change prop valve but do i need to change my master cylinder? And i already have power brakes. Also which prop valve should I get, brand whise? If I need to change master which one do i need to get?

They will be slip off rotors when you are done drilling the rivets out. but they will come together as one. Cole

66GMC I just ordered this (for a parts customer) from Classic Performance Products.

They mention some reconditioned spindles, but they are currently unavailable ... so you need to find some good used spindles from a 65-68 full-size Chevy.

The hub and rotor are not one piece, but the OEM rotor is riveted to the hub. Replacing the rotors requires drilling and punching out the rivets. The replacement rotors do not have to be riveted. They're simply sandwiched between hub and wheel.
So, yeah, they're "slip off" rotors.

eloc431962 If you want slip off rotors, You will probably have to find a newer automobile set-up that can work or be made to work or go to a aftermarket co. and just buy new made for your applacation. JMO. Cole
