|ekacpuc||The pickup will never be used to haul stuff I have a flatbed for that just a truck that COULD be daily driven and also quick. The stock 454 does pretty good I had one in a 80s pickup bone stock and was awesome. Thanks for the help.|

If you build it as I out lined, it will make 500++hp.
Get a Camaro or Chevelle. This is not a truck motor.

The Dart heads end up being 1500 a pair for 308cc intake runner iron eagle heads but the chamber is 119cc. The edelbrock Performer high compression 100cc is 1900 a pair and the .200 dome pistons (for iron eagle) are 405 bucks no rings. The thing I'm wondering about is the 110cc exhaust port and 290cc intake runner seems a tad small on the performer heads. Pistons and dart heads are 1900 bucks and so are just the edelbrock performer heads.
Will the 290cc intake limit me? Perhaps just make it snappy? I'm not shooting for a high rpm engine like to top out at 6000 or 5800 rpm. I want enough tq and hp to get a 4600lb truck going in a hurry.
The guy I got the 454 from put a lot of work into rebuilding it. I havent gotten all of the details yet but its .60 over with flat top forged pistons. He said something about bottom end work too. Thats why I'm lookin into using what I've got with the performer heads (not performer RPM cause 110cc)

I'm easily confused with all this Gen V, Gen VI, Gen VII stuff, but found a pretty well written primer to help me. Maybe some of you other fellows will learn something from it as well....

If your gen V 454 short block is in good shape tear it down and deck the block to achieve a 0 TDC piston/deck clearance. Measure it first. ( its approx a .025" deck cut.)
lightly hone and Rebuild new rings bearings after checking/resize rods.
Mill the edelbrock heads to a 96cc chamber volume. (approx a .030" cut)
install with felpro GEN V block compatable head gasket
If you take care of these details, The cr will be 9.64:1

Complete K kit #K11-771-8 you'll need to add pushrods and the cam button
This is a Mark IV block kit. Call comp cams tech for Gen V block kit.
Performer RPM manifold 850-950 HP Proform/Holley 2" 2-1/8" headers
The money you would have wasted on domed pistons and the more expensive dart heads will fund the roller cam and engine blueprinting/ freshening
You will get the performance you are looking for.
Make sure you got the thing aimed where you want to go when you drop the hammer on this one.

lol I meant combustion chambers where bigger. Was in a hurry. I think you're the first to catch ekacpuc in the 10 or so years I've used it. Thise whole bbc thing is throwing me through loop after loop. Turns out its a 454 .60 over GEN V. I hear mixed things about edelbrock.
Better way to ask my question is its about the same price to change to .200 dome pistons and use the dart heads as it is to keep the flat tops and go with the performer head. So what I want to know is with the performer heads and a 9:1 CR and something like a comp magnum 280 cam can I hit 500hp or get close or am I better off going with the bigger intake runner and high domed pistons to try and get 500 hp?

A 9:1 BBC makes a great street motor. Edelbrock makes great heads. What else can I say?

performer 100cc high comp 454
I've got a GEN V 454 with flat tops and was looking at the edelbrock performer 100cc comb chamber heads they would give me a CR of 9.2:1 and have 290cc intake runners. Anyone have experiance or thoughts about these heads? I could always tear it down and put .200 dome pistons in it and run a dart 119cc comb chamber is my other thought. thinking right about same CR exept big intake chambers
