Oh, I was assuming it was a stencil kit and the stripes would be painted on. Since they are stick-on I change my suggestion about clear coating them. They should not be clear coated, to do that would lead to de-lamination of the clear over those stripes.

302 Z28 Is this just a stencil kit for painting the stripes? Or are the stripes stick on?

I got a call back from Phoenix Graphics,The GM of parts a man buy the name of Graham,he called to let me know that after the complete paint job has settled after 30 days apply the stripes with nothing to follow. NO clear coat or buffing stripes and thats it. You are right. Thanks again everyone

crystalbluevib Wow, i would think the clear could have an adverse effect on the stripes. The stripes are vinyl right?? You dont think there could be a chance that the clear would lift the stripes or even discolor the stripes ? MAYBE NOT I DONT KNOW JUST MY THOUGHT

After calling phoenix graphics they advised me to complete the paint job wait 1 month apply the stripes, and if I want a smooth edge re clear the stripes only or the whole car if it is within the budget then have the whole car done with a finishing buff and thats it .

Thanks to everyone who put in there time for me again, you guys are the best period.

ericnova72 they can also be applied over fairly fresh flashed-off but soft clear. Done this way they settle into the clear a tiny bit, making the edges less noticable but this doesn't provide any fade protection like clearing over them does and you have to get them on perfect as there is no second chance on the "set but soft" clear.

If you are after a stone stock resto look the stripes are applied by the factory over the final coat of color after it has dried, they didn't use clears then. If you want a smooth seamless look with the stripes protected from fading by the clear then put them on over the base, and then clear over them.

Rag top bird Some decals can be a pain I done a Screaming Chicken on a Trans Am and what I did was got it in place and used tape to hold one side and used a bottle of soap and water then peeled the liner on the inside the side that the tape was on then worked my way to the other side using a squeegee to the get the air bubbles out

302 Z28 Idealy the stripes should have been applied before the clear coat. As it is I would also give it 30 days.

Thanks two both of you as far as the kind of paint 2 of coats primer 3 coats PPG base and 3 coats of Clear, and I will wait at least 30 days. Thank you again.

merlinsoars depends on what kind of paint went down but 30 days would be a good wait... that being said, there are application fluids (soapy water) that will help. My guess is there are u tube vids that will help you, easier that trying to explain the process here.. ya know a picture being worth a thousand words
good luck

i've never done it before either.. but i would wait 30 days for the paint to really dry.. cause if u make a mistake and need to pull it off, u may need paint too...
