Hi, I'm in the process of recovering my rear arm rests and side panels with vinyl on my 68 firebird vert and need some help. I have the armrest painted and ready to go. I also have the 3m super trim spray glue, and a roll of 100% 1/4 in cotton padding. I'm ready tro begin but I'm kinda scared because I want it to look nice with no wrinkels, and this is my 1st time doing this. Do I spray the glue over the whole panels or just the ends where you pull tight and wrap around? Any help would be great. Any tips or tricks?

be sure to glue entire panels or you'll get bubbles and looseness in your panel i've had best luck starting on a horizontal line in the center and working outward, some seasoned guys may say other wise i did a set of panels for a 57 fairlane and by the time all were complete looked great, you'll catch the hang of it near the end of your first panel.

The method you use for the panels depends on what you want them to look like. I would encourage you not to use the cotton for padding.......if you make a mistake, the glued down cotton will make a huge mess. If you don't want to use closed cell foam, I have had good luck using 1/4" sew foam with the foam side down. You would not necessarily have to completely glue the fabric down on the panels. These panels are padded with 1/4" sew foam face down only glued where the chrome strips on the top and bottom are attached. (done that way so the vinyl slips on the backing fabric on the sew foam which is facing up which makes pulling the fabric tight a lot easier) I could have also sewed the fabric to the panel in those two places, but the chrome strips hold the fabric down as well. The rest is pulled around the back and glued there only. The foam is completely glued down, however.

The door panel is on a '46 Ford I just finished.
