ericnova72 Spring pressure or fuel delivery(psi and volume) would be where I would look. Intake and carb should be good to at least 6000 rpm.

5500rpm feels like the car has a governor

79 firebird
403 olds with 218-218 cam at .05lift, non adjustable valvetrain but comp series, olds350 heads, around 9-1 compression. edelbrock performer intake, 750 holley, hei distributer with weight kit, th350 trans, 3.08 rear gears.

my question is at around 5 to 5500 rpm the engine almost seems like it hits a governor, it wont rev up or pull past that.

any ideaas on what my problem could be? iwas thinking maybe intake but then i though maybe spring pressure.. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.
