sanding discs

I think that's what i'm using. It's black and kind of looks like hard spagetti. It seems to work great so far.

sparkydog Yes they will scratch and/or remove metal depending on the grit, the amount of wear and how you use them. They are fantastic for certain things and way too aggressive for other things. If all you are trying to do is rough up the existing paint then I vote you not use flapper disks. If you are trying to take off all the paint down to bare metal then they are one way to do it but practice on something else first. An alternative that I like is the "Surface Conditioning Disks" by 3M and others that look kind of like plastic coral. These things are designed to remove paint but not take off metal. They come in different styles and there are ones made to mount to an angle grinder.

sanding discs.

Hi,if youre talking about the flat, flap type sanding discs for 4 inch angle grinders, from HARBOR FREIGHT,i love them, they will remove grinder marks from steel plate in a flash, they are also very good for sheet metal,(the secret) is,,,KEEP THEM MOVING. clean the metal GOOD ,then epoxy prime.

milo just make sure to clean and dull any shiny paint with 400 grit and or a red scotchbrite pad and paint right on that ...less is more..leave solid paint there...

Sanding Discs- Scratch the metal?

So I am in the process of prepping my under hood area for a fresh coat of paint. Here's my question- do the abrasive sanding discs that go on the angle grinders work well and if so, I am concerned that they may scratch the bare metal. Has anyone used these with success? Should I worry about taking off all the paint or does it provide better coating on bare metal. I will be using the eastwood under hood ceramic paint. Thanks!
