I'll have to check it out - I've been trying to get the casting # if the front, but I just can't read it good enough. I've got a few things I'm going to try to get it, and otherwise I will have to get it off the back of the engine after I pull it.
truck is a 66, and I'm sure the engine is original.

Is the 327 a small journal crank or large journal?
I actually prefer the earlier 327 small journal crank engines, they have forged crankshafts while later 327's had large journal cranks that are cast. The cylinder casting #'s are important too. You might have a diamond in the rough with the right casting numbers. I think you will find that the 327 will surprise you with the power output. They have a better stroke / to rod ratio than a 350. 327's have a 4.00 inch bore by 3.25 inch stroke. If it is a small journal engine make sure you replace the rod bolts. The factory small rod bolts were weak for higher power ratings. Sounds like it's going to be a nice rod!

|WoodsEdge||I am building a 50 Chevy Panel truck in which I plan on using this combination, 327 with 350. I have already installed a Mustang front suspension and plan on using a GM 10 bolt rear, I have one so why not use it. Where did you come up with those dino figures? Sounds like the performance figures I am looking for. What cfm carb and what pistons did you use? Thanks, Jack|

|solowookie||LOL - yea I kinda have a problem with that right foot thing too! actually if I could get around 15 MPG with this thing I'd be very happy (that is when I was driving it go get good milage).|

|Tom||I ran a 327 in my vette and got around 12mpg had 355s in back with 275/60 tires, auto trans no a/c a lunati cam 650 holley and factory alum mid rise intake(1966)also used headders and 2.5 exhaust with zip mufflers now if I happened to be going down a long hill I might have gotten as much as 18mpg... but the biggest problem with mpg is ,and you will probably find also, is that my right foot is atleast 4 and a half sizes larger than the left foot...so my suggestion is install the gas pedal on the left and mpgs will rise|

|dinger||With a stock rearend, trans, your mileage would be pretty miserable, i would guess 12-15 mpg. Myself, budget minded, I'd go 70s Nova auto rearend, turbo 350 trans, tallest wheels and tires I could find for a decent price. Unsprung weight- tires, wheels, tire width would all be a factor. A Nova or Camaro subframe or Mustang 2 front suspension will lighten up the front and give more stopping power. Your truck is about as aerodynmic as a brick, you can't expect miracles but would definetely be a cool ride. Maybe around 18 mpg with something like this. good luck.|

327 in my 50 chevy truck?
I'm thinking about putting a 327 together for my hotrod; I can get the engine for free (and it would have some sendimental value). I'm thinking dart iron eagle heads with a comp cam extreme energy roller cam with roller rockers, and an edelbrock performer RPM electric choke carb with vac. secondaries.
would this engine get decent MPG? my dyno numbers;
