oldred I have heard that Baldor was sold to an over-seas outfit, Swiss I think, and would no longer be made in the USA, if indeed they have been in the recent past. Where the new owners will have them built and to what standards of quality I have to wonder. I guess nothing stays the same anymore but Baldor still seems to be the best motor available, we will just have to wait and see how long that remains true.

Just thinking out loud here and not saying all this is totally accurate, the only thing I know for sure is that Baldor has recently changed hands.

trees I was in Northern Tools today and looked at the big 7.5 HP compressors just for grins. One had a Baldar Motor and the other had a KMG motor. The Baldar said "Assembled in USA" and there was nothing on the KMG except for the logo cast into a cover plate. Both units said Industrial, both had the same specs and both had the same price. Both were good looking units :referencing the plumbing, wiring, shut off valves etc. They were about $300 more than the comparable IR they were selling 6 months ago (7,5 HP, same 80 gal tank and same specs). I would not steer away from either of these tanks if I were in the market for one.

oldred You are correct that these are not the heavy industrial units that sell for a heck of a lot more money but they are indeed high quality outfits that are rated for full time shop use but aimed at a different market and yes they are very well built. I am quite familiar with the older Quincy pumps and I have some first hand experience with these units being sold by Northern and they are well worth their cost, IMHO I seriously doubt you can find another compressor of this quality at anywhere near the price of these Quincys.

Time will tell if they will last as long as the older ones but I can almost guarantee you will have to wait many years to find out!

Quincy Compressors

Quincy compressors seems to have a good reputation in general based I would assume on older units that have been in use for years. My question is, how long have the PLT and QT series been around as they are currently being manufactured? I see these for sale on several of the well known internet dealer sites at a really nice price; but this leads me to wonder if the Nothern Tool, Compressor Direct and other offerings are made to a lesser price point/degree than perhaps Quincy their undustrial units on whihc they made there reputation. Do they currently have a good track record with these series of products? I would appreciate your comments.
