I truthfully am expecting 3.08's to be honest, there is nothing special about this truck, it seems very run of the mill. Hoping it is a posi at least, I have a newer model Jimmy that has a decent running gear in it that I'm not sure if I want to swap or not, all depends on the setup this 'Burban has. Thanks.

There will be a code stamped on the rear end somewhere (I think right side top) that someone can probably decode for you.
Once I get the stamped code off the axel tube where can I check it at? This is how I used to ID old F-Body rears but couldn't find anything on trucks. Thanks.

75gmck25 The table on this page will give you the possible choices:
http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/73-87specs.html . Since its a K-10, it looks like 3.23 and 4.10 are possibilities. The table seems to say that 3.42 and 3.43 were only used with smaller engines, but I might be reading it wrong.

Many of these trucks don't have the ratio on the RPO sticker if it is the stock ratio. It may only be listed if it is an option. My truck had a metal tag on the rear end pumpkin, and you could use it to figure out the ratio. It did not say 4.10, but instead showed the number of teeth on the gears - something like 45/11.

willowbilly3 I think the last one I had, an 85, had 3.42s, but it was a grease burner.
Have you looked in the glove box? There is usually a sort of line setting sheet stuck inside the lid and it may tell you if there was an optional axle ratio ordered.

Bryan59EC 3.73 was real common for the 2wd trucks
I had 4.10 in my 78 k-10 pick-up

If you only get 10mpg at any given time-----4:10
if anything better than 12---3.73

I edited the thread title to give the folks here an idea what help you need with the rear end.

You can check Here On the Crankshaft Wiki article... there are some ideas there to help figure out the gear ratio. With the age of the vehicle it may have been changed once

1982 Chevy K10 Suburban gear ratio ?

I have a 1982 Chevy K10 Suburban, 350cid/700r4 4x4. The RPO code sticker is missing from this truck. I have searched high and low on the net to figure out as much as I can about the running gear in this truck. Does any know "typically" what gears and diff came in this particular model or where I could start looking for some info? I appreciate any and all help. Thanks.
