Another thing to check is proper servicing and torquing of the front wheel bearings. The out of balance condition of the tires could easily have damaged the bearings, especially if they were not properly installed. Additionally, with the MII front end, there are brake kits out there that require different bearings, spacers and dust seals. If the instructions were not followed correctly, you could get the symptoms you are describing.

On the driveshaft...check the obvious first. Look at where the yoke goes into the transmission, there should be 3/4" to 1" maximum space between the yoke and transmission seal. Any more than that can cause the yoke to wobble. Suspension must be loaded for an accurate check, best done on a "drive on" rack.

if the vibration was near the same and at same speed after two separate tire balances than I dont know if I would bother looking at the tires much more. The only other thing to look at would be if the wheel or tire is out of round. In that case you can actually trick a machine into balancing it but it still will not make it round again if you get my meaning.
What this really sounds like to me is drivline angles or as mentioned above the driveshaft being out of balance or out of phase. That is where I would start... pull the driveshaft and take it to a competant shop to check for balance, phasing and correct length. Next, while the drive shaft is out you need to check the trans tailshaft and the pinion yoke for correct pinion angle... my money is on bad pinion angles

steering wheel shake
can you switch the wheels front to back and do a test drive and see if the vibration changes. can you tell if there is more or less feel in the steering wheel. depending where the tires are installed ,Has the front alignment been checked ?, A bad u joint will cause a vibration even though you can rotate the drive shaft by hand and not feel any wear. but as Dave suggested check out angles and phasing first,

That drive shaft - most likely it was made up to fit the transplanted driveline. Besides balance, and they do have to be balanced after assembly, the yokes have to be "timed" correctly and totally in phase. The solid cup retaining sides must line up exactly with the opposite end. They also need to welded up correctly. Rather then me try to blunder through an explanation, here is some good reading

I had a drive shaft go bad once and I felt the vibration in the seat of my pants. This vibration causes the steering wheel to go crazy, shaking and osculating left to right.

|awert||I'm no expert, but your going to have to narrow it down some, there are lots of things that could be faulty, with all the mods.....I had a out of ballance drive shaft that did that, took many weeks to find, had all the PRO's fooled....are you sure it is comming from the front wheels???|

Looking for HELP.. Major Vibration
Good Day All...
Kind of new to the forum and real new to Hot Rods. I recently picked up a '51 Chevy 3100 that had been Resto Modded with a 350/350, 700r4, Mustang II front end (after market), after market tilt steering Chevy 10 bold rear end, has 245-40-18 Nitto 555's with KMC wheels and drop spindles which leaves the truck with a nice rake. When I picked up the truck I was advised by the owner/builder that there was a vibration at about 55 MPH to 65 MPH and he thought it was the tires needed to be balanced. When I got home the vibration was so bad that I immediately had the tires balanced. The garage said that 3 of the four tires would not balance correctly as they required upwards to 13 onces on each of the three tires/wheels. They STATIC balanced the tires and sent me on my way.
Today I went to another garage that had a super balance machine and they indicated that they will be able to tell if the tires or wheels are bad and if they can be balanced. All four tires balanced correctly after de-flating and spinning the tire 90 degrees on the wheel and minimal weight was put on each wheel and I am on my way again.
First thing I did was go on the interstate and brought it up to 60 MPH and found the vibration alive and well.
Can anyone suggest something to look at that may cause this steering wheel shaking vibration. The truck has only 1200 miles on all of the parts and everything appears to be tight.
