96lt4c4 Sorry Summit wants $288.00 for it.

96lt4c4 Well I just bought a U.S. Strange Gear.

http://www.usgear.com/products/strange-performance.php

The Strange catalog shows 2 part numbers RS07890389 which is a Motive gear that I have already had from Summit. The other part number is RS07890389US which is the U.S. Gear and made in the U.S.

Summit wants over $300 for the U.S. gear and is not showing in stock. I called Strange direct and they said they had 3 on the shelf. I bought one direct from them for $185.00.

I will let you know hoe it goes.

SSedan64 There may have been a supply problem with the 9" gears, Visteon was in Chapter 11 back in 05.

Yes You can buy them. Check the Ford Motorsports web site or any of the ring and pinion suppliers. They are not a Motive gear.

Did you figure out what was wrong with the Yukon gears? Pinion Wobble?

I have a set of Visteon 3.90 gears, I bought a while back, came out of one of Dale Jr.'s DEI cars. They have the Remedd treatment, look about like Chrome/Polished, very nice quality.
I'm not going to use them, PM if interested.
The Ford gears are NOT a Pro Gear. They are perfect for the street.

Yes, the Yukon gear is bad. I am sending it back. I used all new bearings, and a brand new pinion suport and it was wobbling. So, I had an old support with used bearings and an old pinion still in it. I checked it and it was dead straight. I took it apart and put the old bearings on the new pinon and set it up in the old support so that the only thing that could wobble was the pinion and it still wobbles .001". Thats not acceptable in my book. The snout shows uneven wear marks were it is moving from side to side in the case bearing, and this is just from me spining it by hand checking the pattern. My back lash was all over the place and so was the pattern. Like I said in my other post the Motive that I just had in there setup a lot easier and did not have run out, back lsah was also the same all the way around the ring gear. The Motive was just really noisy, and had been run with my bad axle. I bought it from Summit, I knew they would take it back so I went ahead and got a new gear. I bought the Yukon that cost more money because of thier reputation thinking I was getting a better gear. Guess not....Now I am on the hunt for another R&P. I may have end up trying every brand before its all said and done....

How about US Strange/Gear or US gear. Do you have any experiance with those?
I think they are the same thing.

gonefishin' Some hi end nascar gears are lightened up a whole lot and this is ok for their use but not as good if you ever used the gears for dragging especially if using slicks on a preped launch pad at the strip. This is just a guess by me but Id think the heat treat would be more to absorb impact than for long life or quietness much like how pro drag gears are made.

I have heard that those were reboxed Motives. I just put a set of Ford Racing gears in a 8.8 Mustang and the instructions in the box were USA Standerd gear. The instruction book was the exact same booklet as what comes in the Yukon gear box, just USA Standerd gear printed on the front instead of Yukon...

lmsport Search ebaymotors for Visteon and you will get lots of used NASCAR gear sets. Visteon used to be part of FOMOCO but I think its a separate company now. They are good gears but I dont have any idea if they run quiet or not as I have only used them is race cars because of the odd ratios that are available.

Ford has not made any 9 inch Ford gears in over a decade. Most of the race shops use Richmond Gears ... made in Liberty SC. I have a few friends who work there.

For a street car ... a factory Ford gear is much preferred ... by myself. They always run a lot quieter. NOS ones show up on eBay every so often. That is where I got my last gear set.

DEUCE ... Moderator

I am looking for a quiet gear. I have seen pictures of some that have a REM coating on them. They almost look chrome.
