Have had these on my car for two years with no problem. If your worried about them loosening put JB weld over shaft first, but not necessary.
Tighten the cup ended set screw to recommended torque value and be done with it.
Or go but a TIG welder and weld a piece in.

Cut off the splines part of the window shaft and weld a bolt or ball bearing in place to make the rod longer then it will be permanent. Any extension will be weak and probably break at some point and not be able to replace. A ball bearing with the right kind of metal would help with welding as the edges will give you some space to fill.
Sounds like a pita but could be done in no time. and fit factory cranks and other parts.

The only thing I've seen in the last 20 years, are longer shafts that require you to take out the window or door crank mechanism and replace the existing shafts with longer ones. http://midfifty.com/item.php?INV_ID=427&AD=1

What do you manual window people do for window cranks? The door X precludes the use of the stock window cranks, however, if I can extend the existing crank beyond the door tubes they will still work.
My non-scientific research shows that the window crank from my '75 BMW 2002 fits on the subaru, leading me to think that the spindles are one of those nearly universal parts. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, where to get steel (weldable) window cranks so I can custom build a set? I was thinking of something like this.
At some point I'm going to retrofit power windows, but in the meantime I would like to be able to roll the windows up/down without opening the door

I don't know if the gear and shaft from other Gm products can interchange.or if other gm handles would work. I remember that when Mustangs and cougars were being built there were 105 different handles in the factory. leather interior padded panels use handles with different offset to clear the padding. cougars had heaver glass and the handles were longer than mustangs. After looking for missing handles on some of my projects I gave up and found 4 matching handles in the salvage yard that would fit the shafts.

Window Crank Extension's
Just finished a 6 year project. A 55 Belair Wagon. The custom interior panels are now thicker than stock, so I'm in need of window crank extension's. I've been told they were once readily available from JC Whitney and similar suppliers, but I've searched, and called them with no luck. I thought of extending the existing splined shaft with solid or hollow rod and welding the spline end at the end, buts thats the last resort. A set of 67 GTO convertible window cranks do clear because of the different handle angle, but these will be temporary, since I want the stock 55 handles. Anyone out there in HotRodders.com know where to find the extensions? Thanks.
