dogwater Well what I really want to do is use a drive shaft from a donor car something that is stronger than whats in it now.I'm not sure if the original drive shaft will hold up. When the 78 Camaro came off the show room floor it only had about 190 HP,and not real light either 3800 lbs.So I think this drive shaft (original) my not be strong enough.I'm out of cash, threw it all at the 700r4,so its use what I have or find a straight one in the bone yard.I can cut it and weld it just need to get it balanced.Anyone out their do this? One more thing carbon fiber drive shafts,I'm forever stepping over them, are then good for anything, can they be shortened? I don't know much about them.

SSedan64 You wont find a DS the correct length at a Yard. Just have yours Shortened & Balanced and new U-Joints installed where the Zerk fitting is under compression load or the correct way. You wont need super duper fittingless U-joints at your power level.
The DS Shop will tell you how they need you to measure for length.

78 camaro/700r4/driver shaft

I'm getting ready to install a 700r4 into my 78 Camaro, but I need some drive shaft answers. It has th350 in it now.Can the drive shaft that's in there now handle 400 HP.I need to shorten it 3" for the 700r4.Or should I go to the local pick&pull an find a good one their? What would be a good donor car to look for,I was thinking something like a big station wagon or truck that might of had a 700 in it before.
