DanTwoLakes 140/22 is the size of the needle. If they're the same length and diameter as the one in the machine, they should work.

To lubricate it, buy sewing machine oil. Anything else can stain fabric, and gum up inside the machine.

Thanks again for your help Dan; just opened needles. they say Groz Beckert 10nm 140/22 then 135x 16 dia DPX 16dia greendot they have a very sharp chisel point. Are these rite for singer? look like rite length and shank as one in machine. Also should I use a mineral oil? baby oil wd 40 or gun oil or what? thanks Dan sandy

DanTwoLakes You always use the same thread in the bobbin that you use as top thread. The biggest thread you can comfortably use in your machine is 138. I have sewed with 207, but you have to go very slow, and be prepared for failure, it was not easy to do.

You can start the machine at any height, but you either need to hold on to bobbin thread and top thread at the same time, or drive the needle through the work by rotating the wheel by hand first and then start sewing.

135 x 17 is a needle system, not a size. Needle system for all Singer 211U other than the 211U157A and 211UTT is 135X17. There is no such needle system as 136 X 16 that I know of.

The size needle you can use can be anywhere from a 16 to a 24. If you want to sew with 207 thread, use size 24 needles. Size 22 is fine with 138 thread.

Well I have been getting things around to get started. 100$ for fix and lube on singer. 100$ thread. 50$ for welt feet 50$ practice material and supplies. One question. I picked up needles for 211u567 singer sales person said my 135/17s are 136/16s when I ordered diamond or tri corner needle points. Been on link to needle vs material size ie thread. I found that above my meager brain capacity. but I wanted to sew up a few holsters etc. with 135 to 205 thread. #22 needles. not sure that was rite. Also repairman said never use anything heavier that 69 in bobbins. and only start machine with needle and pickup arm at highest point? is this good info? Anxious to get started. also am doing a pontoon as first project. so watchin boat thread with interest. Thanks Guys. ps love this forum sandy
