I have one in my 49 5w p/u and it's ok. Yes, you do have to weld the tubes together. two things I don't like about it are 1.) the tube comes down farther than if you fabbed mounts yourself and 2.) the motor mounts are a P.I.T.A. on my 49 when installing the motor due to the fact that you have to come straight down into them.No front rear jiggle room.
