Yeah ur right but u know its hard to find a healthy Pontiac engine and what im gonna buy is a total risk i dk if the block,cylinders etc are ok or not ... I wish this car still had its SD-455 besides we dont do drag racing here like u do overthere I need a street Beast thats all

If it were me, I'd go with a Pontiac, but it's a choice only you can make because of your totally different situation. Availability of engines, there are probably a lot more Chevies than Pontiacs in your area, but if you want a real seat of the pants feel of torque, go with a Pontiac and if you want the feel of crazy unreal torque, talk to Mr. P-Body about a stroker kit for the Pontiac.

Chevy or Pontiac

Although I dont advise it I've even run them hot as a firecracker and they still survived when they were Chevys I built.But You should always keep them full of water and oil .Real Gauges are a big plus ,Dummy lights are often too late.

Your available budget will be the best indicator of which to do, I would think.

While I cannot help you to decide on Chev or Pontiac, I CAN tell you that there are adaptor plates that mount to the block to allow a Buick/Olds/Pontiac/Cadillac engine to mount to a Chevy AT bellhousing. Or to mount a BOPC automatic trans to a Chev engine, for that matter. I have personally used these both ways and had good results even in high torque apps like a Pontiac 455 engine to a Chevy TH400 trans in a street driven and drag raced '81 Camaro as well as a 4WD Blazer w/455 Pontiac and Chevy running gear. I have never tried to use them for a manual trans bellhousing, though.

hellcrew Thanks to you all ppl.you know we had Buick Iran here (buick skylark) which actually uses the chevy 350 engine but with a different manifold ,there is still hundreds of them that have useful parts.beside my biggest problem here is that I barely can find a good Pontiac engine the sellers always say that is A-ok but once you start it you'll find out that its ****ty.a mechanic told me that he can find me a good 400 but its gonna cost almost 3000$ besides I need a new gearbox which is gonna cost me 600/700$ ...now I wanna know with that money is it logical to take the risk and buy the Pontiac or its better to tune up the Chevy ?

I'd stick with the 350 chevy.. because the middle east had caprices sold there. so parts are going to be cheaper to find, and source..
nevermind to run the pontiac you need a different transmission, or atleast an adapter..
yes it be cool to run a pontiac.. but . over there just having the t/a is cool..

A lot depends on your budget and the parts availability. If you don't have a budget problem and you want a Pontiac engine, by all means go for it.

Engines will break and wear out parts occasionally, regardless of the brand. I don't know what the availability of engine parts is like there, but even there I'd expect there to be better access to Chevy parts than Pontiac. So if you would need to import more parts for the Pontiac than the SBC, obviously it'll be cheaper to keep the Chevy. But if you would need to import everything for either engine, you might as well go w/what you really want, be it a Pontiac, an Olds, a BBC or whatever YOU want.

If it was me, I'd build a '428' using the small journal 400 block. In '70 I built a 428 for my '68 LeMans. From then on I've been partial to a 4" stroke Pontiac. Earlier we (Dad and I) had built a 389 Tri-Power engine and put it into our shop truck, a 230 ci '65 short bed Fleetside. The engine was set way back on this, it actually and honestly pulled the front wheels at Valkaria.
Used a Cad/LaSalle 3-speed but the stock 3.73 rear end gave out early on so it ended up being pulled and replaced w/a SBC 283 and another OEM rear end. Better choice IMO would have been a Pontiac/Olds rear end and keep the engine, but when you're "not the boss", you do what you're told.

So the point of all this is that you can make good power w/a Pontiac and it'll surprise you w/the torquey powerband. If you decide to go w/a Pontiac, don't over gear or over stall speed it- it'll make a LOT of torque that will be basically lost if the stall speed is too high. You can make good power w/a 4.21"/4.25" stroke Pontiac and not need to spin it any more than 5500 rpm.

I prefer chevys myself because they are hard to blow up if built right.Depending on your acess ,the 383 stroker is my choice as it has the torque of a Pontiac 400 and is lighter in weight and much more durable (in my opinion).Good luck.

Mr. P-Body We routinely ship Pontiac engines and parts all over the world. We have a very strong "following" in Holland and Belgium, as well as England, Australia and New Zealand. Parts are parts. Easy to ship. And, contrary to popular belief, Pontiac parts are NOT rare or expensive. It actually costs more to build a BBC to the same level a similar-cubed Pontiac. That, coupled with the modern parts available for the Pontiac, there's no reason to run the Chevy. The small block, while a very good engine, is no match for the Pontiac, especially in such a heavy car. (I know, all the small block guys are angry now, and want to defend their choice, but do the math. 355 CID does NOT equal 406...) And NO small block is capable of the usable torque even the smaller Pontiacs make. Wanna talk about a 461 (400 block, aftermarket crank)?

Yes, I AM a Pontiac builder. BUT... I am also responsible for the track champ at VMP (Modified Class) this past year (and the runner up), both using small blocks. My opinions come from 35 years of building both. I have always promised my customers to not be "stupid" about the Chevy. I also ask the same courtesy from the Chevy boys regarding the Pontiac. Afterall, GTO didn't get its reputation from LOSING.

I prefer to see Chevy engines in Chevys, Pontiac engines in Pontiacs, etc.
