chevy rearend housing ID

I am tring to I.D. a couple of chevelle rearends and housings in a camaro posi unit and housing. I am trying to put the camaro posi unit in a chevelle housing. I found a web site that says there are the numbers 410408 as a series 3 or 410409 as a series 2, I can not find these numbers anywhere on the rearend unit or the housing. One website said to measure the distance between bottom bolt hole and the next hole either left or right, 3 1/4
is a 7.5 --3 1/2 is a 8.5. All 3 of housing the measure 3 1/4. I am trying to put the posi unit in a 65 GTO. I'm usuing the chevelle housing becasue chevy parts are easier to find than Pontiac housings. Thanks for any information you have.
