Hello all. I recently bought a compressor for $150 off craigslist. It is Campbell Hausfeld model#Hs2810. The electric motor was running fine, and the tank was in really good shape, but the pump had seized. The pump part number is HS720000aj. I took the pump apart and noticed one of the valved had broken off and fell into the piston on the High Pressure side and wedged between the cylinder and piston. The low pressure side was in good shape. I have a few questions.

Is it worth rebuilding the HP side and replacing valves on both side of this compressor? I would get the cylinder honed and new piston/wrist pin etc. I'm not sure if it is a good pump. I havent found much information about it.

How do i remove the flywheel? I see a little metal wedge in there how do i remove that?

Parts i figure to be around $170

Decided to work on the compressor some here are some pics. I cleaned the tank added sem rust mort to the legs to remove some rust. used a wire brush and wire wheel to remove the rust. then i washed with palmolive dish washing soap. then went over the whole thing with 80 grit on a da. I sprayed spi epoxy over the entire thing and then added casters. I decided against rebuilding the pump. I will eventually rebuild it because its so easy to do after a bit of research but would of cost me about $150 in parts to rebuild the valves, hone high pressure side, replace piston, etc... I decided on the eaton 18cfm 5hp pump

It looks like it is coming out great, the SPI black epoxy makes a nice finish.

I would imagine the eaton pump will be better than the original, in fact it should last for many years. You may want to just dump the old one.

Any particular reason for the casters? Usually eveyone bolts theirs down as they tend to vibrate away. Mine isn't bolted down but it is on some heavy hard rubber pads.

I wouldn't want to mess with your helper!

well my dad wanted wheels and what he says goes. i wanted to mount it using the pads, but he wanted to be able to move it out the way when not in use. as far as the old pump its a 5hp 2 stage pump. ill keep it for now. rebuild it just for fun one day.
