hate those non rotating hood hinges.
As far as aftermarket goes and goodmark, year one, OEM stamp= it's all garbage. I always expect the worse when it comes to that stuff and when I have had a good fitting aftermarket panel I accredit it to luck and nothing more. I guess I'm seeing the cup half empty on that but time after time we get stuff that needs skim coats, bending action, cutting, welding and this is all supposed to be good stuff. I just don't believe in good aftermarket stuff on old cars...heck, they didn't even leave the production line with the bodylines we're trying to give it.
Lining up panels is probably the funnest thing for me but it's stressful and time consuming.

But they are like this.
Which means you can't shim where the hood mounts to the hinge OR the "rotating" is very limited with only where it mounts to the hinge.
The shim at the FRONT bolt where the hinge bolts to body WILL lower the hood. If you raise the front of the hinge on the body with a shim the pivot point is going to be lowered......lowering the back of the hood.

|deadbodyman||Is this a glass hood ??? I always remove the hinges and latch and see how well I can get it to fit the hole first THEN start installing the hardware... if you cant get it to fit without the hardware you'll never get it to fit WITH it...I have some wedges I made from wood to slide in the back of the hood to raise or lower it and adjust the front adjusters to get the hood as close as possible then you got to twist ,bnbd and hammer it into submission...when you get to lay flat on all four corners thats when you start with the hinges but you have the right idea about rotating the hinges . a shim in the front hole will raise the back quickly and show you which way it needs to go but wallowing out the hole will give the hinge a lot more adustability and NO shim where the hinge meets the hood...|

Went back out to shop today and rotated hinge got the drivers side looking good. The passenger hinge I am going to have to drill holes bigger and grind on the bottom to get it to get down.
Just thought it should fit better for as much as this hood was to buy

|swvalcon||I've had to rework these aftermarket hoods and fenders with a 2x4 and a BFH. to make them fit. Good luck. Don't we all just love this China built junk?|

You can bend that hood to make it fit better but the hood springs may need to be replaced or removed to KEEP it that shape. But bending it so it fits is no big deal.

Well first of all remember and accept the fact that a repro or aftermarket panel is going to be "Similar to original, can be used if nothing else is available" but it will NOT be "exactly as original" like it says in the catalog.
First off, on that hinge being "down all the way" are you ROTATING the hinge back or simply pushing it down? Pushing the hinge down will NOT get the hood down as low as it will go, not even close.
You need to ROTATE the hinge down, lifting the front as far as it will go and lowering the back as far as it will go is how you get the back of the hood down as far as it will go. Pushing the hinges straight down only gets the hood about half as far as it will go.

If the hinge won't bring it down all the way you can shim it down too, yes shim it DOWN. Putting shims between the hood and the hinge at the front bolt (closest to the front of the car) will LOWER the back of the hood. It's doing the same thing as rotating the hinge back.

I got a 4" cowl hood by Goodmark from Summit also, the passenger side
does not have the same curve on it as the fender, runs about 1/4" higher
Also the cutout for the airfilter was´nt off center to match the offset of the motor to the passenger side in the frame.
Having had it shipped to Spain I had to weigh up living with it or the big hassle of getting sent back..................I´m living with it and it pisses me off everytime I see it.
Not what I expected from a big name company.
Call Summit about it.

goodmark hood fit ? on 78 malibu
Bought 2" cowl goodmnark hood from summit got it not dents looks good. Put it on and the back corners under the hinges the hood stick up 1/2 in on drivers side and about 3/8 on passenger side. I adjusted hinges as down as low as I could and it still look crap. Am I going to have to try to modify hinges some how? Dont they fit better then this? Makes me want to put on stock hood and go after it with a jig saw.
