I know. About 10 years ago I bought a 71 Z-28 that ran into the back of another car at low speed and wrinkled a fender and broke the grill. It had about 60K miles and I bought the whole car for $1,000 and put the running gear in a 39 Ford coupe.
These things are way over rated and over priced these days.
I had a T-10 in a 56 years ago and it was fine. Very strong, I really believe just as good as a Muncie and you can still pick them up fairly cheap.
I guess the days of picking up old 4 speeds for $100-$150 are gone... along with $.32 gas and $.25 Cokes!!!!
I think I like the old days better....

|327NUT||Sorry to hijack...but in the old days the story was you could tell an M22 (w/o pulling the side cover) by the big drain plug on the right side. Then I heard that all over the counter 4 spd. cases had the drain plug.....which is true. By the way I was building a 355" sbc for my 240Z back in '79 and bought a REAL M22 from a guy for $50, he had wrecked his 70 1/2 Z-28 and was hurting for $$$$. I sold it the next week for $450....BIG money back then.|

Aside from the ultra numbers-matching lunatic fringe; Id say 800 and up to probably 1200. If it was freshly rebuilt with a warranty; you could get 1800 depending on options
And NO 26 spline input/ 32 spline output is NOT an M22
the spline change from 10/27 was YEAR specific, not MODEL specific

Put trans in 1st and turn output 10 revs, count input revs to determine ratio.

M21's are hard to sell unless its for a resto job. The M20 will work better with more highway friendly axles like 3.73s 3.42s and 3.31; and the M20 shares the same 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears and reverse geartrain. The difference is in the cluster and input (maindrive) of the 20/21.
The M22 does NOT have spur gears, however the only common gears it shares with the 20/21 family is the mainshaft reverse gear and the splined idler gear. All the other gears are M22 specific
Things buyers want to know:
Input Splines / Output Splines?
damage to case?
new wear parts?
7/8" or 1" countershaft?
Whats it work best with?
If I had a non-numbers matching M21; I would rebuild it as an M20 because it fits a wider range of cars and its probably easier to sell

I just had an M-20 gone through. The original trans cost $500 (was supposed to be good!) After 3 new gears, slider and rebuild parts, it cost me $800.
So I have $1300 in mine. Not sure you could get by much cheaper. Most so called rebuilts are selling between $1000 and $1600.
Way to much considering you can buy a new 5 speed around $2000.

Muncie 4 Speed
I have a Freshly rebuild Muncie 4 speed and I was wondering what It would be worth....
