A friend just called me and said he had a chance to buy a 1965 Royal Bobcat GTO from Royal Pont. I think they were in IL.

I would like to know how you tell if it is a real car or a clone. I did see one in MN in the late 60's but know nothing about them.

Thanks

Bobcat

That was some help, but I would like some thing that tells me it's not a knock off of a bobcat, they had the decal but would someone have ID # of them?

They want some big bucks for this car, and I'm not really a GM guy, so know zip about them, other than I rebuilt a 68 GTO once.

This is a super nice car but I don't want a fake.:nono::nono:

If you can get the vin #, get in touch with the Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) and ask for the history on the car. I don't have thier phone number, but you can probably google them. You will need a credit card because there is a fee for this information. If you find out that the car was delivered to Ace Wilson's Royal Pontiac that will be a good sign. I think that I still have some old corespondence from them from the mid 60s, but I'd have to hunt for it.

I second/ third the PHS documentation route. You could also try contacting Jim Wangers himself. Perhaps he could put you in touch with someone who authenticates them. you can reach him here:

Jim Wangers

Or, maybe contact this guy, Milt Schornack. Rumored to be a Royal mechanic back in the day...

MiltSchornack.com

Or, try contacting members of the Royal Pontiac club. The name sounds promising, if nothing else:

Royal Pontiac Club of America Home

Some reading material:
Amazon.com: Milt Schornack and the Royal Bobcat GTOs (9780786423873): Keith J. Macdonald, Milt Schornack, Ro McGonegal: Books

I hope this helps.
