it can be done in car but you still have no acess to the pump and converter imo its a half assed way for a fix as stated above better to pull it out and do a first class rebuild

you sure? it seems that it can be done that way its just put it back in that gets to be more complex that way

fmx trans

remove the trans in 1 chunk,or you will damage the front pump or fp drive. remove torqe to drive plat bolts,then suport on a good floor jack,remove bell housing bolts and rear cross member. ouit she comes . be sure to pry the torqe back after the 4 torqe to drive plate nuts ar removed.then remove the bell h bolts.

66GMC Agreed. That FMX is probably one of the easiest transmissions to remove.



1.) remove the driveshaft, linkage, fluid lines, etc.
2.) 2 bolts at the mount, 2 more on the cross-member.
3.) 4 bolts that attach the trans to the bell-housing (similar to manual trans)
4.) Slip the entire cast body back, and lower it down.

You can (optionally) remove the bell-housing and convertor later.

Crosley the trans is not rebuilt in the car... what happens is you can disassemble the transmission piece by piece from the car.

Reverse the order to install parts.

this was a method used in first gen T-bird cars.

Makes no sense to do this method on a car where the trans can be removed in one piece

FMX in car rebuild?

i need to rebuild my transmission and in searching for pointers on this specific one i kept seeing it be mentioned that it can be done with it still in the car?!

so just wondering if anybody could elaborate or point me in a good direction didnt find much searching
