Did you check if you have fire to the plugs?

When installing the timing gears you install them-timing chain gear at 6:00 and crank gear at 12:00. Actually this is the exhaust stroke, turn the crank one revolution, the crank gear will be at 12:00, the timing chain gear will be at 12:00. You can then drop the distributor in pointing at #1 this is the compression stroke. You could have stop on 6:00 & 12:00 and dropped the distributor in on #6 like delawarebill said.

EazyDuzIt102 And yes, I installed the gears and chain exactly how you said.

EazyDuzIt102 Ive never heard of facing the dist to the #6? When i re installed the distributor I dropped it in facing the #1 and had the balancer mark on 0. Was that incorrect?

no start'n

when u put in the chain/gears.. i'll assume u put them in pointing to ea other.. top at 6 and bottom a 12... then u need to put the dizzy in pointing at #6 cyl.. if u put it in a #1 ur 180 out.. not a biggie.. been there done that...

70nova327 pull a plug while connected to the wire still and hold it against something like your headers or the block to ground it and have someone crank over the engine and you should see something, the spark should be all blue. BTW you might get a small shock but youll live, use rubber handled pliers or something.

350 sbc won't start!

Just dropped a 350 into my 65 impala. Everything is connected and good but when I turn the engine over, it won't fire up. The engine ran before it was pulled out of the car. While the engine was out I did put a new timing chain/gears on. Is it possible I didn't install the timing set properly? Or maybe im not getting spark? What test could I do to see if I am getting spark? The carb seems to be getting fuel. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
