That is a 1966-69 Pontiac OHC 6 cylinder. It's either a 230 or 250 cubic inch. They were used in the Tempests. They didn't even list them separately in the Hollander Interchange books at the salvage yards. They had the BOP bellhousing bolt pattern with a two speed a/t without a detent cable for passing gear.

A friend had one in a '69 Tempest back in the early '80's that broke a rod and he sent someone to the salvage yard to pick one up that they said they had for $150 and what was was brought back was a Chevy 6 cylinder. He called and told them it wouldn't bolt up and they sent someone to look at it and they said, "no wonder", that's a Pontiac OHC and they're different and we don't have one. So they let him return it for a full refund and he found one in a TRADER paper and bought it. for half the price of the Chevy engine.

The one in the pic is hard to tell the exact ci size since they looked alike.

I was working at a Pontiac dealership those years and we got a few in both Firebird's and LeMan's. They were indeed a quick engine. The money differences between the 6 vs the 8 weren't that much so if you were going to buy a new Firebird why would you want a six?
Gas miliage wasn't such a big deal then so that incentive wasn't there either. By the time the smog stuff and gas shortage struck the engine was gone.

John long I had a buddy who put one in a 47 Ford street rod. Worked great and always drew a croud. Most didn't know what it was.

MARTINSR It was in the "Sprint" check out this ad! Very cool, I have seen a few, including "back in the day".



They came in the Firebird too.









I have always been an inline six nut so I spotted it as being cool back then. And yes, the Quadrajet was standard equipment from Pontiac!

boothboy More precisely, that is Pontiac OHC Sprint Six.. The standard PMD OHD Six had a one bbl carb. The Sprint 6 had a Q-Jet and hotter cam. It was a great little engine.

Interesting. I didn't suspect concept car because the wheels look like modern one's that seem to find there way to a lot of lowrider type cars. Almost exactly what the 63 Riv looked like. I even had to look up a few pictures to make sure I wasn't having a brain lapse
