What style engine are you talking about. Gen 1 v8's High Port/Big Chief/18 degree head chevys or LS style. They use the new engines now. I often wonder if the teams like toyota and others use chevy engines with toyota stamped into the block. Not sure what push rod v8 toy or ford run.

Oh and hendricks racing has some great picks of the outside of the engine so you can see what kind of support equipment the engine takes to keep running.

That's true but it leaves a.145 wall which should make the risks of larger bores evident without even mentioning.

lmsport I think the Cup series engines still run mushroom lifter flat tappets. A lift rule would something new to me also.

NASCAR doesn't directly spec the bore, stroke, or rod length; they specify a max displacement of 358 cubic inches, a bore center to center of 4.47 inches, a block height from mid-crankshaft line to head deck of 9 inches. After that you're fairly free to fill it up with parts that fit inside.

That's not to say there aren't a lot of rules about the details like lifter bore of .825 inch and cylinder wall finish and many other annoyances.

Frankly, I really like southern style run what you brung racing. NASCAR seems silly to me to put out a bunch of rules under the guise of holding down cost for a bunch of million/billionaire good-'ol boys so the average guy can compete. They are crapping on my brain, one of those cars costs more than my house and I live in a pretty pricey part of town.

idontdrivericeieatit You can buy the engines from the race teams if u have the money but not for street at all they are only meant for bout 1000 miles at 9000 plus rpms nothing u would want on the street and yes they are a little different depending on track they at but they are still bound by a few rules that are the same no matter where they are like no more than 358ci no more than 12.1 compression they do reduce bore and add little more stroke at some tracks but wasent going list engine for ever track out there the one I gave is what is said be most common chevy set up

hcompton You looking for SB2 or gen one style small blocks? I think they run LS style blocks and pistons now. Not the 4" bore engines any more. I know a lot more about the older 4" bore style engines.

You cant build one for a street car. Also if your thinking of racing get one from known engine builder that will for sure pass tech and make the power you need to win. Better to spend it now and have a chance at first than to be the slowest guy on the track.

Cams and heads are all custom. you can buy blank castings from GM or you can buy old racers take off from ebay. They use solid flat cams so they dont last long. Most nascar teams buy them in crates of hundreds of billet blanks and custom grind in house. The best cams never leave the shop they get trashed or reground before they go out to the public.

Also they are roller bearing and small slug size with .9+ lifters for larger lobe lift. Really radical stuff offset lifters with massive 1/2 push rods and crazyrocker ratios to get that high lift.

Block is crazy too. Its dry sump with vacum pump to cut down on windage.

Lots of classes and track sizes each setup is based on what worked last year. So everybody has a different setup only slightly but there not letting the specs out as you can imagine.

I seen a special on tv one time it had a race car team with a box of rods that had to be 6 feet wide and 2 feet tall and 3 feet deep with untreated and uncut rods. Must have been 5K rods in that box. It was crazy. They built them up in house. Never using anything from normal aftermarket supplier sep for the blanks.

idontdrivericeieatit Now them spec are for the chevy dont know ford or.dodge I would think they close as they all build by same rules I think I read that ford uses a little smaller bore and little more stroke dont know for sure but all the info is on Google if u want to check

idontdrivericeieatit 358 ci and Bore is 4.185 max. the stroke is3.25 rods are 6. And 6.2 inch it has 8.40 solid lift cam 2.18 intake vavle and 1.65 exhaust vavle 9.inch deck height 12.1 compression max
