bigblockragtop I have a 67 Camaro convertible no visible rust. After getting it on a lift I noticed a little rust running along the bottom near the rockers. I owned the car and poked the rust with a screw driver only to find out the rockers are 3 pieces welded together to act structurally to keep the car together. Well the middle piece of the 3 was gone. New rockers were ordered 12k later the car was back looking not much different than I bought it. I can never get the money back I put into it but at least I know what I have now. I needed a strong structure as the car has a procharged 496 6 speed manual and sticky drag radials. If you do get it dse makes a great set of subframe connectors. Good luck

You're right on the money there,, if I had the moola I would head for Dallas and buy it myself, ( and come home and sign the divorce papers)
the economy is affecting everything, and the toys are first on the chopping block,
altho I don't think that is the case here,, My nephew and the owner are a couple of those exec's that get the big bucks, and its not about the money,,
the dust hasn't settled in this yet,, I don't think,,,

I think your guess is pretty good. Its a buyer's market right now and the cars are not bringing the money they were a couple years ago.

MARTINSR The very first thing I look for is factory spot welds on the rockers and quarters. Sure even those can be faked but then that means they did a pretty nice job at least.

Bad Rat Yep Brian,, there is always a good discription on a car when they are wanting to sell it, I agree with you,, before I ever buy any car, I do a through check for anything, and everything,, I,ve been around cars my whole life,, and have seen some real douseys that people have TRIED to pass off a total restorations,, "maybe a shade tree machanics restoration" bondo buggys
I think the deal is dead in the water,, unless he does some serious talking.
My nephew is pretty up on his knowledge of a cars condition,, he was just asking my ideas on how to build it,, and the price,, I think the owner was right in line on the price,,,we have pretty much the same tastes in a car,,

MARTINSR What a non body professional would see as "no rust throughs" and "very minimal" as for rust, that honestly means nothing. Believe me, after being in this business for years you can spot where rust WAS or hidden where there is NO SIGN what so ever of the rust, but just buy how it looks you can tell what has been done. So having a pro look at a car like this is very important.
I have looked at many cars for people over the years, it has always been a free service of mine when I had my shop and where I am working now, we will put it up on the lift and check it out well, all for no fee because we feel it is so important to our customers.

I have seen some that were friggin wild! I had one that the car was spliced made from two cars, done VERY poorly. The car had very low miles and the motor and interior looked like a brand new car. As I told the customer, "It has low miles because it has spent the majority of it's life in a salvage yard!" I told them to go back to the wholesaler who is trying to sell it to them and THROW the keys at them!

Another that comes to mind was a 70 Camaro (this was back around 1982) that one of my customers was buying for his 16 year old daughters first car. The car was lowered and it had it's front fender wells torched out to clear the tires! One hard bump and the tire it's the ruff edge of the torched hole and rips the tires to shreds! At highway speeds we are talking possible flipping of the car and death! Again, he brought the car back and his daughter got a little more conservative car.

heres the story,, My nephew is in Dallas, this car belongs to a man that works for him, and was wanting to sell it,, nef. sent me those pictures asking my input, to redo it into a streetable driver,, appairently the car has been raced some, but parked for several years, so some changes to the suspension , motor , tranny etc, would need some attention,
as for rust,, he said it was very minimal, no rust throughs,
and if he bought it he wanted to redo the whole thing, LS2 -4l60e etc '' so he was looking to spend some $,
the owner was wanting 16.5 I told him to offer 15, but it turns out the owner decided not to sell..????? I Think the wiffie had something to do with this, ( Nephew's wife) so that sunk his ship along with his dream,,
I was kinda looking forward to building a camaro, will wait to see who wins the battle,,,,

CrashFarmer2 I watched a Camaro convertible sell at an auction several years ago and I was surprised how much it brought. It was pretty much just a shell there was no top mechanism, interior, engine or transmission. There just wasn't much there. What I thought would bring several hundred brought several thousand. Of course all it takes is two people at an auction.

MARTINSR I looked at this yesterday and I couldn't imagine giving much of an idea being to me cars seen in person can change tens of thousands of dollars in value.

I don't have a clue on todays prices so I went to Ebay to "Completed auctions" to see what they have been going for, wow, not too much to go on.

And then 1967 too.

I am amazed at how little some of those Camaro's go for, wow.

But honestly, I have to tell you having just finishing up a convertible, a convertible adds a LOT of extra crap that can go wrong, and expenses. So unless you are really ready for those extra expenses and work, don't mess with a convertible. What I would be looking for would be rust and repairs. If I were looking for a car like that I could give a rats butt about how nice the motor or interior looked, I would be crawling around that body on the floor and in the trunk and all over to see what shape the body is in, THAT is what would be the deal breaker for me. If the body is clean and unabused, I don't care what the motor looked like or interior or paint, that is all pennies compared to if the body has been hacked and rust hidden or that sort of crap. And believe me the convertibles can be rusted out BIG TIME.

68 Camaro convertable value

I need a few ideas on the possable value of a 68 Camaro Convertable, I havn't seen the car in person as its in Texas, only have a few pictures,
It looks to be pretty clean,, its a basic model, built 350 ( suspossably 450 horse) a racing built powerglide, with either B&M shifter or simular, ( couldn't determine from the pic) a Posi R/E don't know the ratio or if its GM or something else, 9" maybe,, race suspension,,??? probably a 4 link
The car was raced for a short time and parked in his garage for the last couple of years. only have the 1 picture of the drivers seat, but it looks to be in great shape,, nice detailed motor etc,,
My nephew in Dallas is interested in buying it , and changing it to a nice street driver
any guesses? Thanks guys,,,
