lg1969 The bolt you referring is a hold down bolt. You suppose remove it and use a long bolt to hold the fuel pump rod up so you can install the fuel pump into the block without fudging around. Once you installed the pump you remove the long bolt and the rod will slide down. After that install a short ("1/2) bolt to seal the oil leak without jamming into the fuel pump rod.

A call to the shop that built it may be in order. Did they thnk you were running eletric fuel pump. I am hoping the shop wouldnt make any large simple mistake like useing too long a bolt. It would worrie me what else they missed if that was really a mistake on there part.

Should only have about 3/8 inch movement and may have some preload on high po pumps.

69 widetrack Take the plate off, your problem will be a lot easier fix with it off.

sbc423 This is a fresh build i just picked it up fron my machinist i woukdn thinj he tightened tge frong bolt to much but maybe? Ive rolled motor several times witg no result shoykd i just pop the plate off?

The bolt in the attached pic is what Poncho is referring to. Use some sealant on the threads to avoid an oil leak.

69 widetrack Also when you get it loose, put a little grease on the end that goes toward the cam lobe, it'll stick and hold it in place while you put the pump in.

Did it fall and get wedged. You can grab the end a little with the long bent needle nose and wiggle it loose. Be sure not to scratch it up where it goes into the engine. May need to turn the motor a little make sure ypur off the lobe to get it loose.

69 widetrack Probably a silly question, but did you try and bolt the fuel pump in without the rod being pushed up against the cam excentric?

Hey guys I'm new to this Site and have a major problem need help asap I just had a motor built for my mud truck ill give some brief specs on it maybe it'll help u answer my question its a 400 block with 421 stroker kit bored. 40 mahle flattops 630 lift cam 262 @ 50 thousndrhs 64cc chamber aluminum heads 1.5 roller rockers stud girdle etc now to my problem I bolted everything up all that's left is the fuel pump I ordered a 110 gph edelbrock mechanical pump and went to put it in but the push rod is stuck up against the plate that holds it I've rolled the miter still no change the pump rod won't move any ideas
