cobalt327 Remove the head bolts one at a time, put sealer on them and retorque to 95 ft/lb. Follow the tightening sequence below.

I use Permatex p/n 80019 Aviation Form-A-Gasket No. 3 Sealant, comes in a small bottle w/an attached brush. Costs $3-$4. Permatex #2 that comes in a tube is OK, too. Other guys use teflon sealers, etc. and report good results.

Some guys do, some don't. I have done it both ways and had no problems either way.

Steel shim gaskets are less likely to need a retorque than a thick composite gasket. When in doubt you can always ask the manufacturer for their recommendations.

If you decide you want to retorque, here is some info.

Be sure to use sealant on the threads of bolts entering the water jacket and a little motor oil under the head of the bolt. I always use a non hardening sealer. It's also a good idea to not torque the bolt on a painted surface unless the coat is very thin.

chevy 292 head tq down

Hi just put the head on and tq it down to 95 lbs. So do I tq it again After some mile ? Thanks
