A 1998 Sebring Convertible ONLY (not a coupe or 4dr) with the 2.5
Or a 1998 Cirrus or Stratus with the 2.5.
That's it. THe interchange warns that even when using one ofthese correct transmissions the computer may still need to be flashed/reprogrammed at your local Chrysler dealership.
You can check out Car-Part.com and see if there is a salvage yard close to you with one in stock. Not all yards by any means are on there but it can save some phone calling.

Ex fiancee had an early Liberty "sport"
The front axle in that thing sounded like it was going to come apart from day one; and the auto trans was a leftover from the previous year. She had the trans flushed and filled by a chain store. They tried to reset the computer so it would learn the shift points; couldn't do it. This thing shifted with some real violence and at weird RPMs. Ends up Chry-Co's computer would talk to the snap on scanner adequately. I ended up on the phone with the regional chrysler operations office. THEY talked to the mechanic and told him that if he rescans the computer when the car is stone cold; it MAY work. In fact, they were surprised that the tran was functioning properly in the application.
We were able to leave the car over night and the mech was able to drive it early in the morning and reset the shift points.
It took over a week to get this done...I feel your pain
PS; if you have a Chrysler 2.5L 6cyl; PLEASE change your oil with military precision, they are somewhat known for oiling problems and seizing up

When I get a used engine or tranny , I Look for a reason not to install it before I wrench on it. If it passes the test in she goes.
I know what you mean about chryslers , they can be pretty elusive when it comes to correctness on interchange. The late 90s cars are especially bad. Seems they had a few 4 cylinders and a few V 6 engines, and all were different.
If it werent for chevys and chryslers...my tools would rust

98 convertable. He ordered a used engine for it from a large auto parts/repair shop. Their computer interchange says same VIN.
They install engine. Harness is different. Won't start. They send it to a Chrysler dealer. After a week dealer says it will never run. Wrong sensors/positions front and rear of engine..
Original installers now have to remove engine. Had scrapped the core. Can't find correct replacement. It seems not only must the VIN be correct. The manufacture date and positioning of the engine sensors and relay boxes on the body have to be the same.
After three months and a lot of gnashing of teeth. I was given the task of getting the thing running. Found a correct year four door sedan engine, same VIN code. almost same relays. Swapped the front cover with another purchased used one with correct sensor position. Changed the rear sensor and modified flexplate to work.
Fired it up. Everything works. Happy (but broke!) lady drives off? I hate working on Chryslers!!! Even tho I own Four of them..

|LATECH||Looks like 1998 cirrus , stratus and sebring only. Must be same V 6 engine as yours also. Check 8th digit in VIN number on yours and be sure it is the same on your donor car.|

|Big William||Sorry about lack of info on first post my Sebring is a 2.5 v-6 convertible that needs a transmission and I would like to replace it with a junk yard one from a newer model with fewer miles. just wondered what years would interchange?|
