While the thumper cam is a bit big for those heads it'll run just fine. The compression is what worries me, even on 93 octane that compression with those heads will be hard to pull off. I hope you have a lot of gear and a light car.
Dropping the compression down to 9.5:1 would be ideal if you plan on running 87 octane.

|350cruiser||Thanks for all the replies guys, y'all have all given me alot to think about. Why would you call the flats and double humps a mistake? Is it cause of the compression or another reason? After further reviews and comments iv decided to ditch the thumpr. Ya it sounds good but o well. I don't want regret it later. Iv always liked the luniti voodoo cams. I'm currently running one in an engine I have now and love it. It's the smallest one P/N 60101. Iv heard alot of good things about the 60102 and 60103 cams. I may try one of these instead. What do you think?|

I hope you won't make the mistake of using flat top pistons with the 64cc double hump heads. My advice would be to use a set like these. Keith Black KB193-030 Hypereutectic Dish Pistons 4.030 Bore | CNC Motorsports | Car Parts | Truck Parts | Competition Engines. A Fel-Pro Q1094 head gasket. I am not a fan of thumpr cams (all show no go). I would suggest Comp Cams XE274H-10. Also another good cam would be a Howards 112581-10. With these pistons, head gasket, double hump heads, and the XE274H cam you will have a static compression ratio of 9.674 and a DCR of 8.176 which is excellent for pump gas. Also your quench will be .040 which is recommended. I would guess this setup would produce about 380 hp depends on how well the heads were ported. If you choose to use flat top pistons your compression would be 10.381. You would have to retard the timing to use pump gas which does nothing but reduce power.

These heads will have springs installed to accomodate the lift of the Thumpr cam. In the long run, they'll be cheaper and work better than those fosdick production heads.

Align-bore or align-hone the main bearing bores to insure that all main bearings are round and parallel. Cut the block decks to square and for zero deck. Bore and hone the cylinders with a torque plate bolted to the block.
Use long-tube headers, 1 5/8" primaries, X or H tube before the mufflers.
Use 4" x 14" air cleaner assembly
This will make a 9.5:1 static compression ratio motor that generates a 8.35:1 dynamic compression ratio that will operate on pump gas. Use 16 degrees initial spark lead at the crank. Re-curve the dizzy for another 18 degrees of lead in the weights, all in by 2800.
Use a remanufactured harmonic damper from these guys...

how the engine sounds does not represent the power it makes. I always choose a solid cam over a hydraulic cam.If you like the sound of the thumper then get a hydraulic cam.
the old 2.02 heads are ok,maybe put a decent intake and a 750 4 bbl, for power. Good headers and big exhaust. Balance the engine

|350cruiser||thanks comp. the 4 relief are cheaper and i still found a few thats 5 and 6 cc... 4 valve it is, how streetable do you think this motor would be if i went with the .015 gasket running 10.38 comp? and what kind of numbers do you think i could put out?|

Sounds right to me. But i think most pistons are 4 valve relief so they work on both sides. If getting them for less cc just get flat top you wont usally need the reliefs but you will need to check to be sure. Or get the 4 valve reliefs and save a few bucks. Ignore me if you found them for the same price. Its all stock driven so if they have too many of something the price drops.
Get the block decked its not the costly and will help with compression and cheaper pistons. Or get pistons that ride higher and close up the deck hieght to the .010 if you can and use stock gaskets or you can use the 1094 .015 head gaskets to keep the quench area close.

hey guys, funds are tight now so its a no go on the 383, but this is what im thinking instead, im open to all opinion/insults/help/thoughts.... whatever. just tell me what yall think, if im figuring this right, and how you think it might run.
350 block +.030
flat top 2 valve relief +5.00 cc pistons
double hump 2.02/1.60 valve 64cc heads (port, polish, double spring,... the works)
im leaning towards the comp thumpr cam,279/297 .... 227/241 @.050.....479/.469 lift.
the only reason im leaning towards this cam is because iv heard them before and they do sound pretty good... but have no idea on the streetability of it. maybe a few thoughts on some other cams a little more streetable but still achieve a slight choppy idle, something that idles at normal RPM, but noticeable chop. the only thing i have to buy for this combo is pistons and cam, so its cheap... which is what i like. double check my math here but im getting
+5.00 CC piston
.025 deck clearance
.040 head gasket compression height
im getting 9.79 compression.
if i was to chose a thin .015 head gasket im coming up with 10.38. issues with this is iv never used a thin gasket before and have no idea on the reliability of a thinner one, and is 10.38 too much for 87 fuel, or would i pull it off with the right cam?? start sending some thoughts this way, thanks
