bill plise Thanks everyone for your response. I guess I really need to get into the weeds on this issue. I have my 54 ford pick up and a 1930 model A, the ford with a 302 and my Model A with a 350 chevy, I want to go 4 or 5 speed on both. thanks for your imput. Bill

Be aware that ford changed the flyweel balance weights, tooth count and belhousings and starters over the years, You will need 82 and later with a 50 oz balance, bellhousing and stater

75gmck25 Ford started using a 4 speed (3 speed with overdrive) in the light trucks in 1978. I don't know much about these transmissions, but I think they should bolt up to your engine directly, since they were used with the 300 6 cyl and 351 V8.

Ford also used a 4 speed (and maybe a 5 speed) with the Mustangs. The 302 was a stock Mustang engine up until '94, so there should be quite a few of these transmissions around.

gm no fit

The Gm transmissions don't fit, a few internal parts for T 10s interchange, not many. I think 82 5.0 HO mustang also used an aluminum top loader OD trans, , check out the shifter locations between vans pickups and mustangs to see what works best. and I think there are various gear ratios. The toploaders were a little stronger than a T 5

OneMoreTime Look up Ford toploader trans...those were stock and ther was an OD version used in mid 80's vans. then you can use the stock ford bellhousing and clutch..

Needing a 4speed tranny for my 54 ford pu

Hi, I want to install a 4 speed in my 54 ford pick up but am not sure what unit to use. Im presently running a 302 86 ford motor [not a 5.0] and a AOD transmission. I believe they use to use a T10 in the early ford muscle cars but I was wondering if the muncie or saginaw can be used in its place? are the mounting holes the same? lenght and spline # of the imput shaft the same? what bell housing would I need to use? I would also like to use a hydraulic throw out bearing instead of linkage and fork, is this a posibility on the early trannys? any imput would be appreciated. Bill
