If this combo of PS pump, SWP and pulleys has run as a unit before you shouldn't have any problems once the 3-groove pulley comes in. If not, just be sure the PS pump isn't for a LWP set up.
BTW, there's an add-on factory outer "3rd" groove pulley that was used by Chevy. Works on a 1- or 2-groove factory-type pulley... but you already have your 3-groove pulley ordered, so moot point.

Yes, it's a SHORT waterpump and the pulley is like the first one Cobalt327 posted.
I ordered the triple groove lower pulley as I'm told that the PS belt should run off of the third (outer) groove on the lower pulley.
What worried me was the fact that there won't be much of the timing mark showing. I guess I could change that too.
I've always liked making little mods and all kinds of brackets and unique things.

The top photo shows a 2-groove SWP pulley. Bottom is LWP. The LWP crank pulleys are always dished.
In case yours has the p/n on it: Double groove 3744043BA or 3850838BG (it's 7-¼” dia., 1-¼” depth, inner groove is flush with mounting holes).

Thanks for all the replies. I did use the proper tool to install it and I torqued it to 60 lbs. After reading these replies I feel much better.
As I said , I've ordered the new pulley (3 groove) and I'll work with the power steering to get it worked out.

If the balancer is installed with the proper tool you just keep turning the hex bolt until it comes in contact with the machined shoulder of the crankshaft.....you can't press it on any further.
Unfortunately some guys still use the BFH and a piece of 2X4 and slam away.....still until you bottom it out on the crank....not the preferred or proper way to install mind you, bad on the thrust surfaces.

|41pu||Rattler I know what your saying I just finished a cam replacement on my 350. Mine went on the same distance, showing the timing mark indicator sticking out past the damper which made me also think it went on to far but evidently it's right. I'm wondering if the stock damper would be a little wider.|

SBC balancer depth
Hi 454, just a suggestion, but have u looked into pressing the pulley further on pump with p/s tool.. also depth looks good to me if bolt is torqued....jim

It looks right in the picture. Did you use the balancer installer when you installed it? The bolt is torqued to 60 lbs.

I can't say anything about the pulleys, but the dampner looks to be about the same depth as mine.

SBC Balancer Depth ?
Hi guys !
Could anyone tell me if this balancer is in the correct position ? It seems like it's in too far to me. The crank and water pump pulleys line up okay. This is on a 350 with a SHORT water pump.
I'm adding power steering to my 36 Ford with a Mustang II rack. I'm ordering a triple groove pulley and will probably space the steering pump out to match the outer groove of the crank pulley.
Any thoughts on the balancer depth ?
