Removing Paint off a 1970 Chevy Nova?

So i am suppose to have gotten this car by the time i got my license but my grandpa is lazy and after 6 months the car hasnt been touched

The roof has been sanded a little but the car still has paint

I dont know how to sand a car but cant be asked to wait any longer so what should i do?

its a 1970 Chevy Nova and i dont want to sand it and end up ruining it. should i buy some paint remover?
