454C10 The 292 will make around 10 inhg of vaccum at 1000 rpm and with 30 degrees of ignition timing at idle. Lower lsa reduces idle vacuum. If you want more vacuum then use wider lsa but that will reduce mid range torque.

I DO like your thinking lol, i normally go under the same rule, I'm guessing the 292H will work as well as say the XE284H right? I do run the lucas "zink" additive, so far i've had no problems with both cams i've run, the other seemed to be a bit much & was hard to tune as it only got 6 inches vacuum, even advancing it didn't help much, it too was a single pattern, here are the cams i've run, now running the smaller one.

Doug Herbert FT Hyd. 510/510, 245/245 @50, 108/104 3000-7200

Cam in there now.
Lunati Barebones FT Hyd. 465/488, 224/234 @50, 112/107 2000-6000

The smaller cam is pulling 16 inches vacuum but fizzles out at around 5800

The car is a 78 cutlass, 3200 lb. with me

Landshark928 That cam will work very well with your combination. Though I would step up to the 705.

vinniekq2 post the specs of both cams and lets discuss it? 406 is big enough to use a decent cam

Lunati voodoo 20704 cam?

Anyone running this cam in a 406 sbc, Right now i have the barebones 465/488, 224/234, Its pretty tame but does ok, just wondering if going with the voodoo 704 will be worth it? I'm running iron eagle 200cc heads, 10.4 compression, RPM intake, 750dp, 3000 stall & 3.70 gears, Its in a 78 cutlass.
