Got an automatic transmission? If so then change to a 3000 rpm stall (10" converter).
What gear ratio do you have? Most V8 1/2 tons came with 3.08's
Do you have a 1/2 ton ?
fyi, trucks that came with in line 6's came with 3.73 gears.

Get summitracing 1103 cam and lifter kit, any brand of longtube headers 1 5/8, and true dual exhaust and your rocking. I have a cousin with a 67 gmc and it has this set up on his 350 and it sounds nice. Runs pretty good to,but i think gears will make it even meaner along the line of 342 or 355.
P.S. my mousie 305 with 700r and 342 gears eats my cousins 67 350 turbo400 3:08 gear for breakfast. POint being. Im a fan of rear end gears

Maybe you can ask comp for a cam with a low ICL short duration and close LDA. Maybe tell us about the engine that is in the truck? Is it low CR?
What tech is telling you is that you need to close the intake valve earlier if the engine is low compression.
The only way I see to get the sound is to buy a cam with a low ICL.the intake center line has a lower number and closes the valve sooner. The choppy idle sound comes from Overlap. thats when both valves are open at the same time(longer than factory)
Its difficult to explain how a cam works,especially for me as Im not as articulate as some of the other guys.
The thumper cams are designed to sound cool more than some other high perf cams.

You and I will not agree with what sounds best. You want a lope to the motor, regardless of the real intent of the motor, because you think it sounds good. I, on the other hand, am interested in power and efficiency, whether or not it includes a lope. I've been wrenching on motors for almost 60 years and I pretty much know what works and what doesn't. You cannot make max power from a low compression motor by using a camshaft that is engineered to make the motor lope and I understand that you don't care, you just want the motor to lope. So, I would suggest that you use a CompCams Thumpr. Use the first cam on the list from the manufacturer, it will work better with a stock static compression ratio. If you try to use one of the lumpier cams down on the list, you will have built a turd. Well.....in my opinion, it will be a turd anyway.

As far as headers on a street motor, I would use a tri-y design with at least a 3/8" thick flange. Thinner materials will curl up like a potato chip from the heat and spit out the gasket.

Hey guys, i have a 69 chevy pickup with a 350 in it. I wanna give it that real nice race car growl with that loping sound. Looking to put a bigger cam in it and some long tube headers. Just wanted ask everybodys opinion, what brand and type of headers and cam should i get? What sounds the best with a 350.
