|NoEngrish||thx for the comments, but yea, too much work and i need a daily driver. Alberta has winter for 8 months. I'm going into field work as a welder and i need a car, so i bought a 1999 subaru impreza 2.5rs coupe with a complete wrx swap for my new dd =D much more reliable|

|vinniekq2||If you use a toyota transfer case then gears do not matter for off road as you can stack them and low range is 3:1. Just worry about whats good enough on the street|

|prostreet6t9||A SBC toyota with 38's wont need 571 gears unless its a "mud only" truck. Also the 529 and 571 gear set's are known for tearing up the gear sets. 488 or 513 ratio should work well.|

TH350 with 1.0 3rd gear, 38" tire, 4.37 rear gear, 2500 rpm's = 64 mph.
TH350 with 1.0 3rd gear, 28" tire, 3.25 rear gear, 2500 rpm's = 64 mph.
TH350 with 1.0 3rd gear, 38" tire, 5.71 rear gear, 3250 rpm's = 64 mph
TH350 with 1.0 3rd gear, 28" tire, 4.18 rear gear, 3250 rpm's = 64 mph
If you used a 28" tire and a 3.25 rear gear, you would make the same speed at the same rpm's that you would if you used a 4.37 rear gear and a 38" tire. Now, if your truck did have 28" tires and a 3.25 gear, you certainly wouldn't install a "big" cam and expect it to perform correctly. You would add more gear. Let's say that you changed out the 3.25 cogs for a set of 4.18 cogs in order to "get up on the cam". I'm fully aware that there are no such cogs available for your differentials, I'm just crunchin' numbers for you to show you that you will need more gear with those meats. In order to have the same speed and rpm as you would with 28" tires and a 4.18 gear, you will need a set of 5.71's front and rear. Yes, that is a real gearset for a Toyota differential.
You don't have enough gear to run a "big" cam.

There seems to be quite a few land cruisers with sbc conversions and a bell housing is available to use the Toyota transmission

daily driver? toyota pickup w/ 400sbc
hi i'm new to this forum and new to all of this....
i just want some opinion on a truck i want to get
it's a 1985 toyota pickup with a 400 sbc
has a 6 - 10 inch left
-202 heads port and polished
-larger stronger valve springs
-5 angle valve job

-extreme energy comp cams unknown size but it's big
heavy duty turbo 350
208 transfer case
38" 15.50 r15 TSL boggers
b&m rachet swifter
4:37 gears with front open and rear end lincoln locker
electric fuel pump
rad is in the box
2" wheel spacers
i live in canada and it's winter for 8 months, i just want to know if this will be okay as a daily driver mostly in winter when it's -30 outside. i have a 500whp subaru sti so i dont really care about fuel mileage
